4、th-centuryhorse-ridingarena,usedinthelastyearsofitshistoryasworkshopsandstoragespacefortheJuliuszSowackiTheatreinKrakw.BREAD PPT DESIGNTheMaopolskaGardenofArtsisacrossbetweentwoinstitutions:theJuliuszSowackiTheatreandtheMalopolskaVoivodeshipLibrary.ThewingonSzujskiegoStreetholdsamodernartandmedialib

6、acaf,andpremisesfortheorganisationofeducational,art-relatedactivities.5THFLOORPLAN6THFLOORPLANBREAD PPT DESIGNThenewhalloperating,asastudiotheatre,conferenceroom,concerthall,andvenueforbanquetsandexhibitionsholdsretractablestagesfor300people.State-of-the-artstagetechnologyispresentoverhead:fixedonho
7、istsandcranestothesteelceilinggirders.Thisallowsdramasandconcertstobeperformed,andexhibitions,filmscreenings,symposiums,conferences,artauctions,fashionshows,andmanymoreeventstobeheld.BREAD PPT DESIGNArchitectKrzysztofIngarden(collaboratingwithJacekEw),claimsthattheformofthebuildingisacontextualgameb
8、etween“mimesisandtheabstraction”.Inpractice,thismeansthatthebuildingisbynomeansasimulacrumofthecontext,butratherdrawsinspirationfromthecodeofcontextualformsbymakingreferencestothegeometryoftheroofsandtissueoftheneighbouringstructuresappliedfortheabstractgeometricalcompositionsofthefaades.Thebuilding
9、fitsthescaleofitsenvironmentperfectlybymaintainingthelinesoftheroofanddivisionsofthefaadesinlinewiththecompositionandlinearsolutionsoftheneighbouringbuildings.BREAD PPT DESIGNHoningtheform,thearchitectsfocusedoninteractionwiththefuturerecipients,whichiswhytheentirespatialformofthesymbolic,openworkro
10、ofingraisedoverthegardenfromthesideofRajskaStreetthoughnotfunctioningasanactualroofistheretotransportthegatewaytothestageoutontothestreet.Inthisway,thebuildingdelicatelynudgespassers-bywiththeskilfulmanipulationoftheform,alreadyatfirstglancegivingtheonlookertheimpressionofgoingbeyondthebordersofagar
11、den,wherecultureisgrowninevenlyplantedrows.BREAD PPT DESIGNFurtherproofofthesophisticatedplaywiththespaceisthegardenitself.Imitatingflowerbeds,theequalbandswithlowgreensareametaphorofagarden:asmuchasthearchitectscouldaffordhere.Anotablefactisthathistorically“ulicaRajska”literally“ParadiseStreet”ledt
12、otheGardenofParadise,whichwaslaterreplacedbythedevelopmentsoftheTobaccoWorks.BREAD PPT DESIGNThefinalimpactistheresultofthedesignerssensitivitytosignalscomingfromtheenvironment.Forexample,theopeningintheperforatedroofofthegardenwasformed,especiallyforthemapletreethatgrowsthere.Inrecognitionofitsexqu
13、isitesenseofspatialcompositionandcreativeforminhistoricalcontext,thebuildingwasawardedwiththeProfessorJanuszBogdanowskiPrize,forthebestarchitecturalachievementinKrakowintheyear2012.Inthisplace,theculturallifeoftheKrakwsyoungartisticsetwillblossomunderasharedroof.Modernballet,contemporarytheatreforms
14、,audioandvideoarts,concerts,andallandanyotherartisticpursuitswillfindtheirhomehere.Togetherwiththetechnicalfurnishingofthestage,theconstructionprojectconsumedapproximatelyPLN47million,andwasco-financedfromEUfundsasapartoftheMaopolskaRegionalOperationalProgramme20072013.BREAD PPT DESIGNBREAD PPT DESI
15、GNWYSPIASKI2000PAVILIONRaisedin2007,thebuildingfillsthegapinthetissueofKrakwscitycentrethatemergedafterthedemolitionofthebuildingPodLipkin1939.StandingonthecornerofGrodzkaStreetandWszystkichwitych(AllSaints)Square,situatedbytheRoyalRoutebetweentheMainMarketSquareandWawelCastle,surroundedwithhistoric
16、alarchitecturedatingbackasfarasGothic.BREAD PPT DESIGNBREAD PPT DESIGNThetwomainfunctionsofthebuilding,namely,toprovideinformationandtodisplaythestained-glasswindows,requireddistinctiveinteriorspaces.Thematerialusedestablishesadialoguewiththeneighbouringbuildings.Usedfortheexternalwall,bricksofspeci
17、alform,trapezoidalincross-section,werearrangedvertically.Suchadeploymentprovidedadistinctiveexternalmovablecurtain:anexternalsystemofshutters.Thisnewformofaceramiccurtain,adjustedtothefunctionalandlightingneedsofinteriorishighlycontemporaryinitsexpression,yetremainsconsistentwiththehistoryoftheplace.In2009,thebuildingwontheawardsoftheAssociationofPolishArchitects(SARP),ArchitectsChamber,andtheMayoroftheCityofKrakwforthebestbuildingbuiltinKrakwinthelast20yearsBREAD PPT DESIGNTheend
