2、d Women My Last Duches The character of his worksFrequent use of “dramatic monologue” is the most important feature of his poetryclose relations with his contemporary issues: faith &doubt, good &evil, function of the artist in modern life etc. Not easy to understand.His poetic style belongs to the t

3、wentieth century rather than to the Victorian age.In general, his poems are supposed to keep them alert, thoughtful and enlightened.Browning & Tennyson-T and B stand for two peaks; the spirit of their performance are interlinked, but their styles are quite different.-T good at nature; B prefer to li

4、fe- the poems of T reflect the crisis of belief; Bs poems permeate with idealism as well as the crisis of belief.-Ts style is very graceful, focusing on beauty; Bs style is quite reality, induvidual. -the image in Ts works are beautiful ;Bs always wild and living.-Ts poems are in harmonious rhyme an

5、d sound more like music; Bs focus on oral English, and highly individual-Ts works tend to traditional, and almost every one in that period knew him; Bs are more modern and less universally know than T. after his death, he is considered to be the innovator of poetry and the pioneer of psychological p

In the aspect of reflecting the class contradictions, two person has their shortages: Ts political attitude is more conservative and moderate; he only write some poetry to sympathize the poor; B abound the spirit of democracy, but he always show the democratic theme by the exotic background,

7、but he failed to deep into the reality of British class contradictions. Contribution to Literature His most significant contribution to English Poetry: the verse form called DRAMATIC MONOLOGUEDramatic monologue-Dramatic monologue is spoken verse that is based upon the speakers presumed point of view

8、. It is very descriptive and emotion filled. It is spoken to a silent audience.Brownings dramatic monologue: his monologues, often short in length, effectively describe “souls in action”. While Thomas Hardy said that Browning was “the literary puzzle of the 19th century”. He probably meant that his

9、ideas were uncommonly rich and profoundDramatic Monologue- My Last DuchessThe motive: Robert Browning was lived in Italy for a period. Thus the Renaissance impressed him a lot. This poet is drawn material from the duck in Italy who got married with his first lady but die with unknown reason after 3

10、years later. With this matter, Robert Browning wrote this poet. So the letter “I” in this poet is not the writer himself, but the image he created. Thats my last Duchess painted on the wall, Looking as if she were alive.In he first sentence, the duck introduced his lady peacefully, which shows that

11、he have no love to the duchess. Obviously,he doesnt feel sad at all. It is an art which can show off to others. Wonder, a good painting, which shows his proud. The duchess behavior doesnt fit his viewpoint of being like a duchessto easy to pleased.On the other hand, the duchess doesnt suit herself t
