3、dandmostdiscussedJewishvictimsoftheHolocaust.Acknowledgedforthequalityofherwriting,herdiaryhasbecomeoneoftheworldsmostwidelyreadbooks,andhasbeenthebasisforseveralplaysandfilms.AnneFrank 5BorninthecityofFrankfurtamMaininWeimarGermany,shelivedmostofherlifeinornearAmsterdam,intheNetherlands.Bynationali
4、ty,shewasofficiallyconsideredaGermanuntil1941,whenshelosthernationalityowingtotheanti-SemiticpoliciesofNaziGermany(theNurembergLaws).Shegainedinternationalfameposthumouslyfollowingthepublicationofherdiary,whichdocumentsherexperienceshidingduringtheGermanoccupationoftheNetherlandsinWorldWarII.6TheFra
5、nkfamilymovedfromGermanytoAmsterdamin1933,theyeartheNazisgainedcontroloverGermany.Bythebeginningof1940,theyweretrappedinAmsterdambytheNazioccupationoftheNetherlands.AspersecutionsoftheJewishpopulationincreasedinJuly1942,thefamilywentintohidinginthehiddenroomsofAnnesfather,OttoFranks,officebuilding.A
6、ftertwoyears,thegroupwasbetrayedandtransportedtoconcentrationcamps.AnneFrankandhersister,Margot,wereeventuallytransferredtotheBergen-Belsenconcentrationcamp,wheretheybothdiedoftyphusinMarch1945.7OttoFrank,theonlysurvivorofthefamily,returnedtoAmsterdamafterthewartofindthatAnnesdiaryhadbeensaved,andhi
7、seffortsledtoitspublicationin1947.ItwastranslatedfromitsoriginalDutchandfirstpublishedinEnglishin1952asThe Diary of a Young Girl.Ithassincebeentranslatedintomanylanguages.Thediary,whichwasgiventoAnneonher13thbirthday,chroniclesherlifefrom12June1942until1August1944.8TheapartmentblockontheMerwedeplein
