Rapunzel grows up thinking that her kidnapper is in fact her mother, and the reason shes locked away is because her mother wants to keep her safe from the hardships of the world. Id tell you more about the movie but I dont want to ruin it. Lets just say she runs away. Very simple, fairy tale plot.
