1、Body language Good morning, everyone. Its my pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. My topic is “In what way can we help cultivate students awareness of crosscultural communication?”, which is in unit 4 book4 I divide my speech into four parts, analysis of the teaching material and students

2、; the teaching theories;the teaching methods, studying ways and aids;the teaching procedures.Part1. Analysis of teaching material and studentsFirst, let me talk about my teaching material and students.This unit is mainly about body language and introduces its important role in crosscultural communic

3、ation, with unspoken language to express ones heart. it is a powerful communication system in all cultures, but body language can signal very different things in different cultures. So the important thing in this unit is let the students learn more about the same gestures in different countries. Eac

4、h activities of this unit surrounded this topic. From the teaching, it will enable the students to realize the importance of body language in communication.As to my students, most of them are poor in English, they have little interest in learning English, they are lack of vocabulary and confidence.

5、So during the teaching procedure, I should focus on how to increase their interest in learning English, teach them the proper way to learn English and encourage them to learn English well. Now, Ill talk about my teaching aims of this period. The knowledge aims of this period are to enable the studen

6、ts to master some useful words and expressions, and by the end of the lesson, the students will have a better understanding of the mean idea and the structure of the text.For motional aims Ill stimulate the students sense to form a correct communication in their daily life.In my opinion the teaching

7、 important points in this period is how to improve the students the ability of comprehensive language application. The teaching difficult points for the students are how to understand the text better, especially the relationship awkwardly built up between “you” and others. Now lets focus on the seco

8、nd part about my teaching methods. Before the lesson, we combine the practice with the student. Some of them have known the content from the new vocabulary and the title. It is difficult for them to understand some long sentences, and they dont often use English to communicate with others. They are

9、afraid of making mistakes. According to this, Ill arrange a variety of activities to let all of them join in to attract their interest and let them be confident. When I deal with this lesson, Ill try my best to carry out the theory of the new curriculum, make the students the real masters in class,

10、the teacher acts director. Ill make full use of modern equipment to make the class lively and interesting, Here comes the important part, the teaching procedures. Before the class, I asked students to gather more information about body language which shows different meanings in different cultures an

11、d countries, from this they can improve their selflearning ability by doing this. And I have designed the following steps to help the students understand the main idea of this unit. Step1: Greeting.Step2: leadin Ill lead in the topic of the period by showing them some pictures about facial expressio

12、ns, in which a sleepy girl, a satiate man and a hungry boy. Let the student describe the gestures. Through this activity I can arose the students interest of study and bring in new subject.Step3: Prediction for reading And then let student discuss the following questions to predict the text.1. What

13、is the function of body language?2. Are all the body language the same in the world?It draw the student attention to the content of the text.Step4: Fast reading Ask the student to read the passage quickly and get the main idea and the structure of the passage. By doing this, Ill train the student fo

14、r fast reading skills to improve their reading ability and let them understand the general idea of each paragraph.Step5: Careful readingTask1: The students are required to focus on the whole text by doing the following tasksdecide whether the following sentences true or false. This task will help th

15、em to learn more about the details of communication.Task2: Ill give students four questions to strengthen the impression during communicate with foreigners. Task3: Let the student find out the body language which shows similar feelings and some of which shows different feelings in different cultures

16、.Step6 Post reading For the student to understand the topic better, Ill get the student to have a discussion in groups about these questions.1. How can we know others feelings, even if they dont speak to us?2. Why should we be careful of our own body language?3. Why is it important to watch others as well as listen to them/.These questions are based on the understanding o
