1、 Thoughts on the design:本单元中心话题为“与人相处”,主要探讨友谊与朋友。教材中的第一板块Welcome to the unit要求学生能讨论自己的朋友观与择友标准,以引入Reading板块的教学。但要让学生充分展开讨论,他们必须具备一定量关于人的品格和个性方面的词汇,因此,笔者调整了教材中的教学顺序,把Word power板块 Adjectives to describe personality的内容提前至第一课时来上,为整个单元的教学作好铺垫。本课词汇教学的设计理念是寓教于乐,通过设计各种学生感兴趣的课堂活动来调动学生参与的积极性,使词汇教学不再枯燥乏味。学生在参与

2、各种活动的过程中,联系旧知,掌握新知,顺利掌握一定量的目标词汇并能正确加以运用。Teaching aims:The students will be able to master a number of words related to Personality by involving themselves in different activities.Teaching important points and difficult points:to master a number of words related to PersonalityTeaching procedures:Step

3、 1 lead in (PPT 4-7)1. Students and teacher play a guessing game: Who is he/she?Students are asked to guess who the teacher is through the given description of the teacher.2. Teacher introduces the topic of todays lesson: Adjectives to describe personality by focusing Students attention on the words

4、 about personalities in the descriptions.Explanation导入采用“猜猜他/她是哪位老师”的猜谜方式,旨在激发学生兴趣,使学生能迅速把注意力投入到课堂中来,因为大部分学生都比较喜欢谈论自己的老师。在谜面中使用有关Personality的词汇,自然导入本课主题。Step 2 Presentation of words describing personality (PPT 8-12)1. Students are asked to work in a group of four and discuss the personalities of fam

5、ous cartoon characters. Teacher gives four choices for each group: the seven dwarfs, the evil queen, Kung Fu Panda, and Tom&Jerry. Each group is free to choose any one of the four choices.2. Representatives from each group tell the rest of the class their opinions towards the cartoon character. (In

6、this process, students are allowed to refer to the dictionary or turn to teacher for help if they have any difficulty.)Explanation此步骤的目的是激发学生已有的词汇知识,并在此基础上,鼓励学生通过小组讨论,同伴互助,查阅词典,求助教师的方式来学习掌握新的关于“个性”的词汇。此处让学生通过自由选择来讨论不同的卡通人物,是因为考虑到学生的年龄特征,卡通人物更具吸引力。让学生自由选择,体现课堂开放、民主性。Step 3 Introduction of Positive ad

7、jectives and Negative adjectives (PPT 13-17)1. T puts all the adjectives that come up in Step 2 into two categories.Category 1: generous helpful kind reliable cheerful happylovely friendly cute clever warm-hearted strong-mindedhard-workingCategory 2: foolish stubborn lazy jealous selfish cruel evil

Teacher guides students to find out that all the adjectives in Category 1 refers to the good points in a person, but the adjectives in Category 2 all refer to the bad points in a person. Thus, the idea of “Positive” and “Negative” is introduced.3. Students work in

9、 pairs and with the help of dictionaries try to find out whether the following are positive or negative:open-minded moody honest polite narrow-minded impolite boring determined happy rude 4. Brainstorming: Students are encouraged to think of as many positive and negative adjectives as possible to de

10、scribe personality.Explanation在此环节中,有关“Positive”和“Negative”的概念被引入并得以操练。在引入部分使用上一步骤讨论出的词汇,使授课过程环环相扣。操练部分通过Pair work 及Brainstorming的方式,使学生通过不同的课堂活动来学习新知,巩固复习旧知。Step 4 Introduction of synonyms and antonyms(PPT 18-20)1. The idea of synonyms and antonyms is introduced by referring back to the discussion

11、about the personalities of cartoon characters.2. Students try to tell the synonyms of :shy strong-minded friendly clever foolish hard-working3. Students try to tell the antonyms of:hard-working talkative polite honest humorous open-minded kindExplanation此步骤通过回顾不同卡通人物各自相似或迥然不同的个性特点,自然导出同义词及反义词的概念。并通过

12、此环节的操练适当拓展学生的词汇量。Step 5 Practice of the words learned(PPT 21-27)1. Students are encouraged to make a meaningful sentence according to the picture they see. In the sentence, adjectives to describe personality should be included.2. Students are then encouraged to use what theyve learned in the lesson to describe their own English teacher.3. Finish Part A on page 7.Explanation此处的第一个活动是学生看图说话。具有趣味性的图片能激发学生的想象力和热情,学生在创造性的活动中巩固所学词汇。第二个活动是要求学生来描述教师本人,教师鼓励学生说实话,指出教师的优缺点,此项活动能使课堂教学达到高潮,学生不知不觉巩固了所学。第三个活动采用教材上的填空练习,使操练最终落实到笔头。并用这项训练(有关交友的文章)为第二课时“有关朋友与友谊的讨论”埋下伏笔。教后感:
