Topics include human resource planning and the recruitment, selection, dev

2、elopment, compensation, and appraisal of employees. Scientific management and unionism are explored insofar as these historical developments affect the various personnel functions. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: BMGT 360, HRMN 300, or TMGT 360.Course Introduction:

3、The purpose of this course is to enhance your awareness and understanding of the importance and function of human resources management. Through the various assignments, discussions, a research paper, and the interview of a Human Resource Manager, you will be required to sharpen your skills in both a

4、nalysis and written communication. During the course, you will learn about ethical approaches to human resources management; how human resources management is affected by legal, global, and economic environments; and the importance of planning for, organizing, managing, and rewarding these “human” r

5、esources.Organizations today face challenges in management of human resources. I want to provide a current understanding of developments in the field of human resource (HR) management. Two major factors are affecting all aspects of HR management:* Changing workforce composition: The aging and retire

6、ment of many workers, the increasing diversity of the workplace (both racial/ethnic and other factors), and the growth of work-life issues are more critical and crucial than ever before in the history of management.* Globalization: The global economy is impacting both large and small organizations i

7、n the United States. Outsourcing, international competition, employees who are located and moved throughout the world, and different cultural considerations all affect HR management. The coverage of global issues has been integrated throughout the various chapters of our textbook. This is a reflecti

8、on on the integration of global competition into almost all HR issues and practices.It is becoming crucial for HR management to understand organizational strategy and to contribute directly to the implementation of the HR aspects of Long-term strategic goals and objectives, toward the accomplishment

9、 of the organizations stated mission.One of the hottest HR topics of growing importance today, Talent Management is covered more thoroughly here than in any other textbook on the market. The expanded content integrated throughout this course clarifies what Talent Management is and why it is importan

10、t to an organizations future.Course Goals / Objectives:After successfully completing this course, you should be able to:* Discuss the role played by Human resource management in relation to other functions to support organizational success. * Explain how external factors such as the economy, globali

11、zation, organized labor, and legislation to have influenced the development and role of human resources management strategy and planning.* Identify current laws that protect the interest of employers and employees, and their impact on human resources management.* Discuss the processes involved with

12、staffing, from job analysis, job descriptions, recruitments and selection, and organization and the ways in which internal and external factors affect them.* Explain why performance management is critical to organizational performance, and what tools are available to management to maximize performan

13、ce.* Describe the role of training and development in organizational performance, and how this role should be effectively managed.* Identify the compensation and benefits strategies and organization can use to attract and retain employees, and the factors considered in establishing a particular appr

14、oach to compensation.* Discuss the ways in which and employer must protect its employees rights, including safety, security, health, and privacy.* Study current issues and best practices in human resource management.* Discuss the complex demands on human resource managers.Cross Curricular Initiative

15、s:In addition to these learning objectives, this course also concentrates on UMUCs cross curriculum initiatives, details below, designed to help UMUC students build business skills to enhance their careers and overall effectiveness in their employment.1. Effective writing. There are numerous writing

16、 assignments throughout the semester. Those assignments are expected to reflect appropriate professional writing skills. That is, they will be evaluated on the basis of grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and overall sound writing principles. Part of your final grade will be based on your proficiency in expressing you
