12、sandminussignsareusedtoindicatewhetheracertainsemanticfeatureispresentorabsentinthemeaningofaword,andthesefeaturesymbolsareusuallywrittenincapitalizedletters.Forexample,theword“man”isanalyzedasconsistingofthesemanticfeaturesof+HUMAN,+ADULT,+ANIMATE,+MALEAsentenceisagrammaticalconcept.Itusuallyconsis

13、tsofasubjectandpredicate.Anutteranceistheunitofcommunication.Itisthesmallestlinguisticunitthathasacommunicativevalue.Ifweregardasentenceaswhatpeopleactuallyutterinthecourseofcommunication,itbecomesanutterance.Asentencemeaningisoftenconsideredastheintrinsicpropertyofthesentenceitselfintermsofapredica
