Kafka, as the originator of modern literature, the profound thinking and exploring in his works wonderfully explained the connotation of Modernism. And as one of his representative works, is also the immortal classic in t
3、he modern literature history. Ive ever seen a picture of Kafka. Hes handsome, but there are some unspeakable feelings in his big eyes. Despair? Much more than this. It might be a kind of distorted hopelessness. He was a giant created by a lifelong loneliness. He stood in the height and overlooked th
4、e world where we cannot reach and where he saw the desperation of all human beings.This summer vocation I read Kafkas . In the process of reading the book, I felt there was a strong sense of oppression in my heart just as a huge stone on my body. Constraint、depression and deformation tied me up and
5、my whole body was paralyzed, as if the man who became the insect wasnt Gregor but me, it was me restrained under the huge leather sofa and couldnt move.The book was written in 1912. It is said that one morning as Gregor Samsa woke up he found himself transformed into a gigantic insect. He used to su
6、pport his family with his slender earnings by working as a salesman, but now on the contrary, he had to sponge off his family. At first, his parents and sister were filled with compassion and caring for his poor encounter. His sister would bring him some food and clean up his room at the beginning.
7、However, as time went on, his family started to disgust him, and even detest him in the end. They regarded him as a heavy burden both in physical and mental, hoping that he could die earlier with a disdainful eyes. And one day, after having been disgusted for a long time by his family, he died in lo
8、neliness quietly. While his family, they didnt feel a tiny bit of sadness but showed happiness, as if they finally relieved the burden, and started to plan their new life. And this is how the story goes by.When reading the book, I thought I was reading a miserable record about how an ordinary man wa
9、s afflicted with in an anguished situation, feeling lonely and hopeless.I think Kafkas greatness lies in: some philosophy about life was implied in the boring details and when you finished reading it, you did get something to think about. The novel was successful. In our daily life, a familys confli
10、ct and peoples nature may not show up in a seemingly dull atmosphere. But in the novel, what you see is the fully-exposed social essence in capitalist society, the ruthlessly-torn veil of the capitalist society family, the selfishness、indifference and cruelty in the interpersonal relationship and th
11、e naked pecuniary interest.Gregors predicament just was the westerns in the early twentieth century. The inhumanity and slaughter of the World War 1，the money worship of the capitalist society as well as the labor press caused peoples deep reflection of the society, humanity and the values.Kafka con
12、veyed his accusation of peoples distorted values through Gregors metamorphosis and questioned the human nature.When the deformation of the society、morality and thinking come together, then the social groups could only survive in the cracks. Reading , not only should we realize the pain and despair of that time, but the more thinking we get from the “metamorphosis”.
