Valentines Day is also extremely popular, and even Halloween is being celebrated now.This phenomenon has actually developed quite naturally in recent decades due to our educational systems focus on English study and therefore on English-speaking cultures. To many students, Wes
3、tern culture has become a symbol of self-expression and freedom from restraint. Celebrating Western holidays has become a way for students to express their love of something different from traditional Chinese culture, and to have fun together with their own generation.In my opinion, its fine for stu
4、dents learning English and studying English-speaking cultures to celebrate Western holidays with their teachers and classmates. However, the way I see it, unless the young people later go abroad to live in those cultures, there is no reason for them to continue to celebrate them. We Chinese should h
5、old on to our traditional festivals, the festivals which we have celebrated for centuries.Practice Two My Thoughts on the University Arts FestivalFor our universitys arts festival, I think that the university should hold open competitions and auditions for anyone who wants to take part in the festiv
6、als exhibitions and performances. This would not only increase general interest in and appreciation for the arts, but would also be a good way for our university to show its support for the arts. This arts festival is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone that arts are important for everyone t
7、o appreciate and take part in, regardless of major.I think that there should be general, open auditions and competitions in all the major arts. There should be categories for painting and sculpture; classical, folk and modern dance; and instrumental and choral groups, both large and small. The judge
8、s should be joint committees made up of both faculty and students, both experts in the field and novices. Arranging the festival in this way will, I believe, give our student body a greater enjoyment of the arts, a break from studies and a fuller appreciation for what it means to be human.One Way to
9、 Solve the ProblemTo deal with the air pollution caused by vehicles in cities is a challenging job. My suggestion is to produce vehicles powered by solar energy.Compared with mineral fuels such as gasoline, solar energy is inexhaustible in supply. The growth of cities and increase of vehicles call f
10、or more supply of energy, but there is a limit to the reserve of mineral fuels. So, solar energy is with its endless supply is one of our solutions to energy crisis. The second advantage of solar energy is its cleanliness. Traditional vehicles operating on gasoline give off exhaust, causing damage t
11、o human health and polluting the air. From the perspective of environmental protection, solar energy is a much better choice. After the new technology becomes economically feasible, the sky over cities will be brighter, and the air will no longer be a threat to our health.Because of the two benefits

However, with the sharp rise in the urban population, many probl
13、ems arise in the development of cities.Firstly, cities become more and more crowded, putting much pressure upon transportation, housing, sanitation, education, employment and so on. City services and facilities have been strained to a breaking point. Secondly, a growing number of private cars emit a
14、 huge amount of carbon dioxide, leaving the air mercilessly polluted. What is more, the city is also threatened by an increase in crime. There is not a single day passing without the report of someone being robbed, kidnapped or even murdered.Last but not least, city-dwellers are not only separated f
