5、ungsroman perspective because the novel Sense and Sensibility shows some necessary elements of Bildungsroman. It centers around the two heroines process of maturation through analyzing the relationship between them and the minor characters around them, as well as their psychological development. It
6、will be divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introductory part which not only involves the introduction to the novel Sense and Sensibility and the theory of Bildungsroman but also includes the studies home and abroad and general ideas about this thesis. At last, this chapter mentions
7、the main point of the paper that it is not limited to Mariannas growth but also fills the gap of the studies in Elinor and other mentors such as Willoughby and Brandon.The second chapter points out the changes occurring on the two heroines and mentors from the aspect of internal cognition and their
8、characteristics in that the growth in Bildungsroman involves the characters trying to get knowledge about the society and the nature of the world, understanding how to accept the society and to be accepted by it and acquiring the philosophy of life. The third chapter clears up the plot development t
9、hrough the conflicts between Marianna and Elinor, the conflicts between Marianna and Colonel Brandon and the appreciation between Elinor and Colonel Brandon who is also a mentor in this novel. Conflict is an important element of Bildungsroman, not only pushing the plots forward, but also giving impe
10、tus to characters growth as an external factor.The fourth chapter is the conclusion of this thesis which shows that the characters and plot development of Sense and Sensibility accord with the elements of Bildungsroman and the characters process of maturation still has great impact on and inspiratio

Key Words: female growth, Bildungsroman, Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility摘要理智与情感是一部较为典型的女性成长小说，本文主要从成长小说的角度分析该小说中的女性成长主题，主要围绕两位主人公的成长经历，分析他们自身及其与其他次要人物之间的关系以及主人公的内心世界。本文共分为四个章节。第一章介绍了小说理智与情感、作者简奥斯汀以及关于成长小说的理论观点。除此之外，还总结了国内外对该小说的研究，最后引出本论文的主要观点，即不仅仅研究主要人物玛丽安的成长，更填补了对埃莉诺成长研究以及对小说中指路人如威洛比和布
12、兰顿上校研究的缺失。第二章主要发生在两位女主人公及指路人身上的变化，主要包括在内心世界以及性格品质方面的变化，涉及到人物对自我的反省，对外界的接触，对社会的理解包容以及最终能够接纳并懂得生活的哲学。第三章通过分析玛丽安与埃莉诺的冲突、玛丽安和布兰顿上校之间的矛盾以及埃莉诺与布兰顿上校之间的欣赏来梳理情节的发展。矛盾冲突是成长小说中很重要的一个要素，不仅推动情节发展，也可以被理解为是促进人物成长的一个外界因素。第四章是结论部分，总结全文得出以下结论：理智与情感中的人物与情节发展均符合成长小说的特点，并且小说中的人物成长对当今仍有深远影响及启发意义。除此之外，该部分还指出了本论文的发现及不足。关键
