Lead-in1. According to the reading text, we have learnt some great athletes, such as Deng
3、 Yaping, Michael Jordan, Zhang Ning and so on. Ask students who they like best and why. Let students say sth about their achievements.2. When the student say sth about Liu Xiang, show the picture of him, and ask students to use some words to describe him.Answers: He is a handsome young man.He was th
4、e first Asian to win the gold medal for the mens 110-metre hurdles in the Olympic Games.He is a hard-working athlete. He is a well-trained runner.3. Let the students study the italicized words and ask them two questions:(1) Do you know the meanings of the words?(2) Do you know how the words are made

Compound words1. Tell students that the above words are called compound
6、words. Ask them to give the definition of a compound word:A compound word is made when two or more than two words are joined together to form a new word.2. Ask students to think about other words that are created this way. Organize them into groups of four and have a competition. Write all the compo
7、und words that students can think of on the blackboard. The winning group is the one that comes up with the most words.3. Have students study the words that they have listed and then read the words on page26 to understand the formation rules of compound adjectives and compound nouns. To form compoun
