1、 Unit 2 The Olympic GamesGood afternoon, my dear judgers and classmates. Today, I feel honored to have the chance to share my ideas about how to teach reading.In the reading process, I will focus on students overall language abilities and enable them to use proper reading skills and strategies. My t

2、eaching plan includes the following 5 parts.Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material and the learnersThe selected teaching material is an interview taken from the reading part of Module 2, unit 2, the Olympic Games. The text is mainly about the similarities and differences between the ancient and th

3、e modern Olympic Games. To most students, this is a familiar topic, while they are not familiar with the ancient Olympic Games and because they are grade 1, they are poor in the reading strategies.Part 2 Teaching objectivesBased on the analysis, I have identified the following aims, which include 4

4、parts.Knowledge aims: Ss will able to learn some basic knowledge of the ancient and modern Olympic Games; be able to use those new words to talk something about the Olympic Games.Ability aims: Be able to predict the content of an interviewthrough pictures and prior knowledge ;Be able to use schema t

5、o get the gist by skimming;Be able to get detailed information by scanning. Emotional aims: get Ss to understand the Olympic spirit better. Learning strategies: cultivate Ss some cognitive and communicative strategies. In my point of view, the focal point is how to use schema to predict the content

6、and get the gist of an interview. And the difficult point is to use words and expressions learned in this text to communicate freely and to make a summary. In order to achieve the teaching aims mentioned above, I choose students-centered teaching method and scaffolding instruction as the main teachi

7、ng approach. With the methods, I can guide students to use effective reading strategies to comprehend the text, solve problems and complete different activities. Then, lets move to the teaching procedures.Step 1 warming up First, I will show Ss some pictures to arouse Ss interest and then, let them

8、do some multiple choices to activate Ss existing background knowledge. At the same time, let Ss get familiar with some new words through the two activities.Step 2 Pre-reading I will use schema to guide Ss to predict the content of an interview through title, pictures and prior knowledge. I will give

9、 them enough scaffolding and show them how to do. Just like this. This aims to fire Ss imagination, increase their concentration and give them a purpose for reading.Step 3 While-readingThere are 3 activities, which aim to improve Ss reading abilities, especially skimming and scanning. Activity 1: Re

10、ad the text quickly to check the prediction and get the main idea. According to the schema, Ss can conclude the main idea easily. Then, activity 2: Read again to find the similarities and differences. First, Ill let them do it by themselves. And then, have a group discussion, to check their answers

11、and to choose a clear way to show their answers. Activity 3: Answer the questions, which focus on reading between the lines. As we know, information in a reading passage is not always stated directly. Sometimes Ss have to infer, or make guesses according to the information which is available in the

12、reading. So this activity will help Ss get further understanding.Step 4 Post-reading I will hold a discussion on reasons to or not to host the Olympic Games, which aims to let Ss use what they have learned to express their ideas.Step 5 Homework Write a short summary of the text according to the schema and the chart, which aims to improve their writing skills of making a summary.Next is my teaching aids and blackboard design.
