3、School Students1. Introduction1.1 Brief Introduction of Language Learning StrategiesLearning strategies are skills used by students to improve their learning. These strategies are important for language learning because they are tools to help students become more active in language learning. Appropr

4、iate language learning strategies result in improved proficiency and self-confidence.Learning strategies have been used for thousands of years, although they have been formally discovered and named recently. Throughout the history, the best language learners have used strategies, ranging from natura

5、listic language practice techniques to analytic strategies.1.2 Reasons Why We Want to Do the Study and What We Want to AchieveLarge amounts of studies have pointed out that appropriate strategies can result in improved proficiency and self-confidence. In order to improve the theory, we decided to co

6、nfirm the accuracy of this theory.One of our group members is an intern teacher of XX Middle School. According to his personal experience and class observation, we find that Junior High students begin to use some learning strategies. Different students have their own learning strategies. As Junior H

7、igh students, English learning is an important part in their study life. So we choose “English Learning Strategies on Vocabulary and Reading of Junior High School Students” as our research topic.2. Brief Literature Review2.1 Brief Literature ReviewThe study of language learning strategies began to e

8、merge in the middle of 20th century. It occupies an important place in the research of second language acquisition.During 1970s, researchers focused on the characters of the learners and the effects of these characters. These studies can help researchers find out the appropriate strategies which can

9、 improve the language learning. In 1980s, the main points were changed to the study of the relations between language learning strategies and the procedure of the language learning. From then on, most of researchers confirm that appropriate strategies can result in improved proficiency and self-conf

10、idence.The study of language learning strategies is important for language learning because these strategies are steps taken by students to help them become more active in language learning.2.2 Research QuestionsAccording to the information we collected and the personal experience of our group membe

11、r, we put forward two research questions:(1) What is the current situation of English learning strategies used by junior high school students?(2) How could learning strategies be used to improve English study for junior high school students?3. Methodology3.1 ParticipantsShanghai local students who a

12、re from junior high grade three, about 100;5 of them (one outstanding, three average and one weak) are picked out to receive a face-to-face interview;5 parents of these 5 students;3 teachers.3.2 Research Site(s)Shanghai XX School(One of our group members is an intern teacher of that school. He can c

13、ollect data easily.)3.3 Instrument(s)Interview, questionnaire and class observationAs is mentioned above, we choose 100 students to finish our questionnaires and five of them to finish our interviews. We also interview related parents and teachers. During the research, we observe their live courses,

14、 too.3.4 Data Collection ProcedureTo collect information from junior high students, our group members will visit the Shanghai XX School. In order to complete the interviews at the same time, each member will face to face interview one student. According to this situation, 5 students (one outstanding

15、, three average and one weak) will be picked out to attend this interview about their own study customs and methods as well as their own thoughts about English studying in 30 minutes. We will also interview 3 teachers and 5 parents about the effects and improvement of learning strategies for SLA. We

16、 will take any necessary notes whenever useful. About 100 questionnaires will be distributed to 100 junior high students to collect their information about students English study methods.4.
