Abstract: With the continuous development of transportation, more and more large-section highway tunnels are being built. However, with the increasing number of large-section highway tunnel

3、s, there are also more and more karst caves. Karst caves have a certain impact on the surrounding rock stability of large-section highway tunnels, so it is necessary to study the impact of karst caves on the surrounding rock stability of large-section highway tunnels and their safe distance. Through

4、 literature review and data collection, this paper studied the impact of different types of karst caves on the surrounding rock stability of large-section highway tunnels by combining field geological survey and indoor tests. Based on the analysis of the formation mechanism and classification of kar

The research results of this paper show that there are obvious differences in the impact mechanism of different types of karst caves on the surrounding rock stability of large-section highway tunnels. At the same time, this paper also proposes effe

7、ctive safety distance measures that should be taken in tunnel design and construction to ensure the safety of the tunnel. Keywords: karst cave; large-section highway tunnel; surrounding rock stability; impact mechanism; safety distanceKarst caves are common geological features in areas with carbonate

8、 rock formations. These caves are formed by the dissolution of the rock through the action of acidic groundwater. Due to their complex underground structures and potential for collapse, karst caves can have a significant impact on the stability of large-section highway tunnels constructed in the vic

9、inity.Research has shown that the impact mechanism of karst caves on surrounding rock stability can vary depending on the type of cave. For example, some caves are characterized by sharp and steep walls, while others have a more gradual sloping profile. The presence of fractures and fissures in the

10、rock can also affect the impact of the cave on the surrounding tunnel. In general, it is important for tunnel designers and construction teams to take into account the potential impact of nearby karst caves on tunnel safety. One key factor to consider is the distance between the tunnel and the cave.

11、The research suggests that a safety distance of at least 100 meters should be maintained between the tunnel and any nearby karst caves.Other safety measures that can be taken during tunnel design and construction include stabilizing the surrounding rock with bolts or other reinforcement materials, a

It is also important to conduct regular inspections of the tunnel and the surrounding area to detect any potential signs of collapse or damage. In conclusion, the impact of karst caves on the stability of large-section highway tunnels can vary depe

These include the complexity of the cave system, the geological conditions of the tunnel path, the depth of the tunnel, and the amount of stress imposed on the rock mass during construction.Complex

15、ity of the Cave SystemKarst caves can have complex networks of passages and chambers that extend over large areas. When planning a tunnel in such an area, it is important to have a detailed understanding of the cave system, including its size, shape, orientation, and proximity to the tunnel path. Th

For example, if the tunnel passes through fractured or faulted rock formations, there is a higher risk of instability due to the presence of weak planes in the rock mass. Similarly, if the
