Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion. 1. Media; Personal lives of famous people; Entertainment 3. It could be said that having little or no privacy in one's personal life "comes with the territory" of being a famous personality. 正: Much of the media, be it television, newspaper or magazines, is primarily motivated by sales and profits. 正:A prime example of the media exploiting the personal life of public figure is that of the late Princess Dinana. I think the media pays too much attention to the private lives of famous people. Television, newspaper magazines and web sites dig up all kinds of past bad actions and gossip. They say that these are true reflections of a person's character. This may be true if they occurred only a few years before, but some of these are things people did as teenagers. People in their forties are expected to explain something they did when they were fifteen, which is an impossible position, because everyone grows up and reflects on their foolish and childish actions from youth. If they killed someone, obviously that's more than a youthful mistake. Usually, though, these incidents involve experiments with drugs or being reckless in a car. They're not something that the public needs to know. The media loves to say that the public has a right to know. That's not true. We don't need to know if a movie star or politician has had an extramarital affair. That is something of concern only to the people involved. We do need to know if someone we're electing to public office has been involved in shady business deals, but we don't need to know if he/she defaulted on a loan twenty years ago. It seems the media digs up these facts without giving thoughtful consideration to what might happen. It has a profound effect on the celebrity's family, especially the children. A celebrity's good name and credibility may be ruined before he or she can prove that rumors are false. If a case goes to court, paying a lawyer could use up all their money. Even if it doesn't come to that, they may find their career ruined. 1. Usually, though, these incidents involve experiments with drugs or being reckless in a car. 2. It seems the media digs up these facts without giving thoughtful consideration to what might happen. 动词短语 dig up 的意思是"发掘,挖掘",同样的表达还有"look for",不过dig up 比 look up 更加深入仔细,用在这里很贴切。 What might happen 是 what 引导的宾语从句,跟在介词 that 以后,做宾语。 3. We do need to know if someone we're electing to public office has been involved in shady business deals, but we don't need to know if he/she defaulted on a loan twenty years ago. 在第一个宾语从句中,we're electing to public office 前面省略 that,做 if 引导的宾语从句中主语 someone 的定语,起修饰作用。
