3、ation Works Understanding how the CNC control interprets motions under the influence of cutter radius compensation should help you learn how to use it and avoid problems with programming. In basic terms, you will tell the control (by a G code) the relationship of the milling cutter to the workpiece

4、during the machining operation. Either the cutter will be on the left side (G41) or right side (G42) of the workpiece as it machines the contour. Once cutter radius compensation is properly instated, the control will keep the milling cutter to the left or right (depending upon your choice) of all mo

5、tions programmed. This can be a little difficult to visualize, especially for beginning programmers. The CNC control will automatically keep the cutter center away from the programmed path by the amount of the specified cutter radius compensation offset. This is what allows you to program the work s

10、 are especially difficult for beginning programmers to visualize. Almost all problems a beginner will have with cutter radius compensation stem from one of these two difficulties. First is the instating movement (the movement from point one to point two). Prior to instating compensation, you must po

11、sition the tool to a location larger than the cutter radius away from the first surface to be machined (point one in this example). Second is the approach and retract of the tool. Notice that the first portion of the movement from point two to point three and the movement from point thirteen to four
