1.在th后以字母组合er或ern结尾的单词中，或者最后一个字母是不发音的e时，th读浊辅音/如： father, mother, brother, feather, weather, whether, leather, further, southern, northern, either, bathe, breathe等2.一般情况下，字母组合th在代词、冠词、介词、连词或副词中，读浊辅音/ ，如：this,that,these,those,they,them,their,theirs,there,the,than,then,though,thus,therefore,within,without等只有介词through和throughout是例外3.字母组合在数词（包括基数词和序数词）中读清辅音/ ，如：three,thirteen,thousand,third,fourth等4.除上述单词外，大部分位于词首的th读/ ，如：thank，theatre，theme，theory, thick, thin, thing, think, thirsty,thread,throat,thunder,Thursday，等5.以th结尾的单词，th读清辅音/，如：bath,both,breath,path,tooth等。
只有在少数单词中，如：with,smooth中，th读浊辅音6.在复合词中，th的读音与在原词中的读音相同如：something, angthing,nothing等7.还有其他一些无规律可循的词，如：maths, clothes, clothing, author等。
