It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to hit back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibilit

3、y of quarreling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behavior of politeness is by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays dont even seem able to rec

4、ognize politeness when they see it.However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. A Typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the ro

5、ad wherever and whenever they want to.An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in traffic stream without causing total blockages (堵塞) that give rise to unpleasant feelings. Unfortunately, modern drivers cant even learn to drive, le

6、t alone master the roadmanship. Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take (互谅互让) from all road users. It is high time we took this message to heart._Passage 2A new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior

7、shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily, it is a bad thing for young people. Puppy love (早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression. The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all.The possible reaso

8、n for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”. According to the study, even though boys would say “lose themselves in a romantic relationship”, this “loss of self” is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have r

9、omantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They wont tell that to their parents. Dr Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing. Trying romance often causes the depression.She advises kids not

10、 to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with

11、family.Parents should watch for signs of depressioneating or mood changesand if they see signs from their daughter or son, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity
