主句中的explained后接一个由that引导的宾语从句情态动词+have done”①“can (not)+have+过去分词”表示对过去可能(不可能)发生的事进行推测He can’t have finished the work so soon..He can’t have taken it upstairs.②“could (not)+ have+过去分词”表示过去的时间,说明某事可能(不可能)已经发生,也表示对过去的虚拟,肯定句表示某事本来可以做但却未做否定句表示某事过去本来不应该做但却做了She passed me in the street without speaking.She couldn’t have seen me.We didn’t go out last night.We could have gone to the cinema but we decided to stay at home.③“may(might) + have+过去分词”表示对已经发生的事的推测,意为“可能”“大概”,但不太肯定,其中might 比may语气更弱,此外,might结构还表虚拟,表示过去本可能发生某事,但事实并非如此。
