She lived in a separate part of the house, accompanied by her closest friends. This was a time when the bride and her young women friends mourn the bride's separation from her family. Before the Chinese Wedding Day for groomHow different the "bachelor party" of today's American society is from the traditional Chinese custom of preparing the bridal bed. It was the groom's job to oversee the installation of the bridal bed on the day before the wedding. After the bed was in place, as an omen of fertility, children were invited to pile onto it. Red dates, oranges, lotus seeds, peanuts, pomegranates and other fruits were scattered on the bed and the children had the joyful task of scrambling for the goodies. 1、、 The Wedding ParadeOn the wedding day, a fleet of “nuptial cars” is organized by the bridegroom’s family to escort the bride from her parents’ house to the wedding reception. From a functional perspective, these cars are a modern substitution of bridal sedan chairs used in ancient times. 2 、、Door-Blocking The groom must pass through a game known as "door-blocking” before he can pick up the bride to go to the wedding party. When the groom, together with his best man and other friends and relatives, arrives at the bride’s house, the door is locked from the inside by her friends who would then challenge the groom with some demanding tasks, recounting the couples’ romantic tales. To persuade them to open the door, he must satisfy all his “judges” with the answers. Or, he may resort to bribing the panelists with hong bao (red envelops with cash gifts). Normally, the judges will not overdo it and the game lasts only for a short period of time. 3、、Entry of the Happy Couple (fireworks) To further highlight the festival atmosphere, fireworks are set off on the wedding day either when the couple arrives at or enters into the ceremony site. However, this custom is increasingly on the wave nowadays owing to the fact that many Chinese cities have banned firework display based on environmental considerations. As a result, confetti is often used in the place of fireworks. 4 、、Gai Kou ChaThe couple is guided by the host to serve tea to each other’s parents. After this, they will start to address their parents-in-law as father and mother, rather than uncle and aunt as they used to call them. The parents would then present cash gifts wrapped in red envelops, known as gai kou fei, to their son/daughter-in-law, and the amount of cash contained should have auspicious implications. 5、、 Taking the Union of Wine CupsAnother important part of a typical Chinese wedding is taking the union of wine cups. This is how it works: the bride and groom, each holding a glass of wine, cross their forearms and drink the wine from one aonther’s glasses, meaning that they will remain loyal to each other through thick and thin for the rest of their lives. 6、、Change Wedding DressDuring modern day Chinese weddings, the bride changes her dress at least once—the white gown in which she enters the ceremony hall will be changed later on during the banquet to a red Cheongsam. She, as the spotlight of the wedding, needs to make the most of her special day to impress the guests with her multi-faceted beauty. 7、、 The Wedding Banquet Chinese weddings culminate in the wedding banquet which is also the highlight of the entire proceedings. 7、、 The Wedding Banquet The banquet is normally organized by the groom’s family. Marriage is regarded by Chinese people as an once-in-a-lifetime event, and the wedding banquet, therefore, means a lot to both families. For the parents, dishes served during the banquet and the number of tables are directly related to their reputation among relatives and friends. As a result, the dishes are often lavishly prepared to the highest standard possible in both quantitative and qualitative terms. what's moreToday, honeymoon has become popular all across the world, and China is no exception. A Chinese wedding is always followed by a honeymoon usually spent at a scenic tourist resort—a happy memory to be imprinted on the mind of the newly-wed couple.
