INTRODUCTIONTheincreasingTheincreasingfocusoninternationalizationofhighereducationhasmadestudyabroadprogramanessentialmadestudyabroadprogramanessentialpartofauniversitylearningprocess.Thissignificantprocess.ThissignificantaspectoflearningismadepossibleattheUniversityofMalayathroughitsStudyAbroad-StudentExchangeprogram.UMStudentExchangeprogram(UMSEP)isdesignedforinternationalstudentswhowishtoacquiretheexperienceoflivingandstudyinginaMalaysiancampusthroughashort-termstudyprogram.Itaimsatfosteringinternationalunderstandingamongstudentsofdifferentnationalitiesbyprovidinganexcellentlearningenvironment.Throughtheprogram,studentsfromoverseascanpursuestudiesthroughtaughtcoursesorresearchintheirfieldofinterestandgainbroadperspectivesondifferentculturesandbackgroundoftheirpeers.2. DEFINITIONTheUMSEPisashort-termstudyprogramofferedtolocalandinternationalstudents.TheInternationalStudentCentre(ISC)willhandletheintakeofinternationalundergraduatestudentsonly.CategoriesofUMSEParelistedasfollows:I.StudentExchangeProgrammeUMSEPappliestostudentswhoareinterestedtospendatleastonesemesterandNOTMOREthanoneacademicsessionatUniversityofMalaya.Studentsenrollingunderthisprogramwillbepermittedtoregisterincoursesorresearchareasoftheirchoice(subjecttotherulesandregulationsgoverningtheprogram).UMSEPisopenedtoallundergraduatestudentsfromforeignuniversities.ParticipationinUMSEPStudentsparticipatingintheprogrammaychoosetoenrolinoneormoreofthecoursesofferedduringthesemesterorsessionaslistedbelow:(a) Regularacademicundergraduatecourse.(b) Co-curriculumcourses(practicalcoursesintheareasofculture,artsandsports).(c) Supervisedindependentresearch.Studentsmayidentifytheirownchoiceoffacultymemberstobethesupervisor.HavingbasicMalayLanguageproficiencyisanaddedadvantagetostudentswhowishtoenrolinundergraduatecourses,asthemediumofinstructionformostofthecoursesistheMalayLanguage,especiallyinArtsbasedFaculties.ForthebenefitofstudentswhoarenotproficientinthelanguagetheymayregisterforcoursestaughtinEnglishonly.ForsciencebasedFaculties,themediumofinstructionisEnglishLanguage.3.
