Dielectric Voltage Withstand TestA Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test or High Potential Test (HIPOT test) is a 100% produ ction line test to verify the quality and electrical safety characteristics of a produc ts. As required by national and international safety regulatory agencies such as JSI, C SA, VDE, BSI, UL, IEC, TUV etc. The test is performed by exposing the device under test (DUT), input power mains to high voltage, the magnitude of which is specified by the a gency for each product type, for a given period of time. The assumption is that if the insulation can withstand the much higher voltage for a given period of time, it will be able to function adequately at its normal voltage level. If there is no Insulation bre akdown occurs, the DUT is deemed to have PASS the Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test. In sulation breakdown would have occurred when the current f1ow increases rapidly in an un controlled manner through the insulation. User must refer to the published standard for the product type, DUT, to apply the correct voltage. Typically, the applied voltage us ed is AC. If the DUT has large capacitor across the insulation, DC Voltage Withstand Te st is recommended. The DC voltage used is 1.414 times of? That in AC voltage.2. Insulation Resistance TestThe Insulation Resistance Test is very similar to DC Withstand Voltage Test. A DC volta ge, up to 1000 Volts is applied across two points of interest. Instead of the G0/N0 GO indication given in Voltage Withstand test, the IR test gives a resistance value usuall y in MQ. Typically, the test voltage used is 500V DC or 1000V DC and IR value measured is of no less than 10 MQ. The IR test is a qualitative test that gives an indication of the relative quality of the insulation system・ In some specifications, the IR test i s performed first then the Withstand Voltage test. If a DUT fails the IR test, it is li kely it will also fail the Withstand Voltage Test which is usually performed at a highe r voltage.3. Ground Bond TestGround Bond Test measures the impedance between the chassis and the ground post of the device under test (DUT). The Ground Bond test determines whether the safety circuit of the DUT can adequately handle fault current if the product should ever become defective. The Ground Bond Test is to apply a high DC or AC rms constant current, usually between 10 to 40 A, to determine the impedance between two points or the ground circuit. Gener ally the test current specified is 25A and the impedance measured is typically below 0. IQ. For CSA compliance, the test current required is 40A. The Ground Bond Test detects problems such as ground wire diameter too small, ground circuit open and ground screw is not tighten properly.4. Touch Current Test ( Previous Line Leakage Test)The Touch Current Test measure the amount of current flow between touchable metal parts and earth ground through the human body when the DUT is powered on. A Measuring Device, MD, circuit is used for human body impedance simulation. The voltage measured in the M D circuit is converted to the amount of leakage current flow through the MD circuit. Du e to the different assumptions used to represent human reaction, the MD circuit defers from one standard to another. The MD circuit is given in the safety standard document. The line voltage used for the test is normally set to worst case scenarios.。
