Amassivefleetof262ships,includingBritish,CanadianandAustralianvessels,sailedtothecoastoffInchonandlandedanadvanceforceofUSMa

Thesecondwaveofinfantrywasdelayedbyhightides,butlandedat1700localtime.Ledbytanks,theypushedtwomilesinlandundercoveringfirefromaircraftwhichattackedNorthKor
5、eanshorebatterieswithrocketsandbombs. ThealliedlandingforceswerethelargestassembledanywheresinceWorldWarII. Theywerewatchedbytheirmander,GeneralDouglasMacArthur,fromtheflagshipofthesupportingfleet. Aftertheinitiallandings,hesignalledtotheassaultforce,TheNavyandMarineshavenevershonemorebrightlythanth
6、ismorning. InalaterreporttotheDefenceDepartmentinWashington,hesaidcasualtieswerelightandthewholeoperationatInchonwasproceedingonscle. Healsopaidtributetotheclockworkcoordinationandcooperationbetweentheservicesinvolved. TheSouthKoreanCommander-in-Chief,Major-GeneralChungIlKwon,saidtheinvadingforceswereputtingpressureontheCommunistsnearKimpoairfield,abigairbasetothenorthofInchon. TherehasbeenlittleresistancefromtheNorthKoreanPeoplesArmy(NKPA),whoarebelievedtohavebeentakenpletelybysurprisebytheattack.
