1、Module 5 Ethnic Culture The Basha(巴沙族)The Basha group belongs to a branch of the Miao ethnic minority in Guizhou Province and is reported to be the last tribe of gunman.Almost every man above the age of 14 carries a gun and a knife, which they regard as a sign of bravery and honor.They have spoken n

2、ot written language.They believe their life has been blessed by the God of Trees. There are less than 1,000 people living in the tribe now, but their customs, thanks to the high mountains, have remained what they were thousands of years ago. The Deng(僜族)Deng people, also known as Mishmi people, are

3、the smallest ethnic minority living in Tibet by population.They once lived in deep mountains. According to their tradition, women are not allowed to eat pork, beef and chicken after eight years old, otherwise they will be punished by the whole community.Knives play an important role in their daily l

4、ife.They can be used for farming, hunting and protecting themselves in case of dangers. The Miao(苗族)Rich in ethnic tradition and geographical (地理的) resources, Guizhou in southwest China is well known as an ethnic museum. The Miao peoples village of Zhongdong which means “middle cave” is built in a h

5、uge natural cave.In other parts of China, people live in houses, but Zhongdong is, the local government believes, the last place in the country where people live in a natural cave all the year round.The villagers are all ethnic Miao people.The Hezhe(赫哲族)As an ancient and hardworking ethnic group, th

They have the custom of playing cards on card tables in the middle of the street. The Naxi still wear traditional costume the women wear blue blouses and trousers covered by
