、ed step by step procedure for Mechanical Engineering to create files that fully define all the mechanical requirements to be usable by PCB Design. This includes the documentation requirements by both groups for the collaboration effort through Agile release for NPD efforts. 2.0 Definitions: Full kee

、p-outs: Full keep-outs are areas of the PCB in which no component may be placed. (ie where plastic touches the PCB, the clearance areas for a screw- head, etc.) Height restricted keep-out: Height restrictions are areas of the PCB in which components of a certain height are allowed in this area, but

、no taller. It creates an automatic restriction on the Mentor (ECAD software PCB designers use) side for the PCB designer in which he will not be able to place any components exceeding the height restriction 3.0 Rules: The entire PCB on both sides must be fully defined by keep-outs, height restrictio

、ns or mounting holes. No area on the PCB should be left undefined No component on the PCB may break any of the restrictions given by the files in the Engineering Document. Use only files downloaded from Agile. The import and export conversions between the software packages are unit- intelligent; it

、does not matter what units you prefer to work in, the PCBs will be the proper dimensions. 4.0 Mechanical Procedure: 4.1 Documentation Create an Engineering Document object from Agile, which should come out as 800-XXXXX Create an ECO and attach the 800-XXXXX object to it. This will be used as a mediu

、m for the PCB group to pull the required files from 4.2 3D Modeling Create PCB part in Creo: 800-XXXXX.prt Model the PCB outline and extrude. Do NOT include mounting holes in this step Create holes (mounting, pilot, datum, etc): Note: Holes must be created 1 at time to be recognized in ECAD system o

、 Extrude a circular cut on the PCB surface completely through the part. Only 1 hole per feature o Once all of your holes are extruded, select all of the hole features, right click, and select Edit Parameters. 9、ows Mentor to recognize a hole as a tooling (drilled) hole rather than a routed hole o In the box, click the + button to add a new parameter: Name: ECAD_HOLE_TYPE (manually typed- must be spelled exactly this way) Type: String Value: TOOL (manually typed- must be spelled exactly this way) Click Ok o

、 Add all trace patterns critical to mechanical design to 800-xxxxx.prt, this includes traces for carbon pills, zebra strips, board-edge connectors, etc. as standard cosmetics 4.3 ECAD Areas Create ECAD Areas to define the total surface area of both sides of PCB (full keep-out areas and height restri

、cted areas) o To create a full keep-out area: From the Model tab, click the Engineering pulldown and then click ECAD Area. Area Type: Place Keepout Click sketch, and create a sketch onto the appropriate surface of the PCB. This sketch must be closed Use engineering standards and analysis to determin

、e size of full keep-out areas Make sure 3D Volume is not checked o To create a height restriction area: From the Model tab, click the Engineering pulldown and then click ECAD Area. 13、r a depth (mm) that constitutes the maximum height component permitted in this area Click sketch, and create a sketch onto the appropriate surface of the PCB. This sketch must be closed. Use engineering standards and analysis to determine size of height restricted keep-out areas Note: This feature i

、s a surface feature and must be solidified in the next step. o Solidifying height restricted keep-outs. This step enables mechanical engineers to do interference checks. To create solidify features to make the areas solid: For each height restricted keep-out feature: Select the height restricted kee

This step is necessary for ECAD software to recognize height restricted keep-outs o Save 800-XXXXX as file type: ECAD IDF: (*.emn). Name it 800- XXXXX.emn.
