5、ctural features of die,Low Alloy Steel and Cast Iron Components The box sections, ejector plates and runner bars are of mild steel, with approximately 0.15% carbon. The guide pillars and ejector stops may be case hardened. The function of these parts is to support and guide, not to endure shock load
6、ing. Bolsters undergo mechanical impact and stress but not a great deal of thermal shock and are often made of medium carbon steel. Alternatively these parts are steel castings or they may be of a spheroidal graphite cast iron. The blocks are usually made of medium carbon steel; a typical British sp
7、ecification is BS 970 08M40（En8）, with 0.4% carbon, 0.8% manganese and 0.3% silicon. Sometimes a prehardened steel is used, a typical analysis being 0.35% carbon, 1.0% manganese, 0.5% silicon, 1.65% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum. This composition is covered by the American AISI specification P20.,Tex
8、t,Design 1. Parting line surfaces The blocks are ground flat so that the injected alloy will not escape under the considerable pressure of injection. It is preferable to have the parting line in one plane, but sometimes the design of a component makes it necessary to construct the die with irregular
9、 parting line surfaces to avoid creating an undercut.,2. Guide pillars guide and bushes Once the parting line has been established and the blocks machined, guide pillars, usually between 10mm and 60mm in diameter, depending on the size of the die blocks, are incorporated into one half of the die to
10、ensure exact alignment of the two die halves. Holes of an appropriate size are machined into the other die half and fitted with bushes, normally of carburized steel . On symmetrical dies, one pillar may be offset, to avoid assembling the die incorrectly. The pillars are normally of case hardened mil
