1、The Fox and the Goat(狐狸和山羊)One day a fox fell into a well. 一天,一只狐狸失足掉到了井里。He tried to get out of it, but he couldnt. 不论他如何挣扎仍没法爬上来。Just then a goat came to the well. 就在当时,一只山羊来到井边。She wanted to drink some water. 她想喝水。She looked down into the well and saw a fox there. 她往井里看发现狐狸在井里。The goat said to th

2、e fox, “Is the water good?” 便问狐狸:“井水好不好喝?”“Yes, the water is good,” said the fox. 狐狸说:“是的,井里的水很好喝。”The goat jumped into the well and drank much water as she liked. 山羊便不假思索地跳了下去,咕咚咕咚痛饮。After a while the goat said to the fox, “How can we get out of this well?” 一会儿之后,山羊问狐狸:“我们怎么从井里出去?”The fox said, “We

Put your feet on the wall. 狐狸说:“你用前脚扒在井墙上。Then I jump up from your back. 我从你后背跳上井去,After that I will help you out.” 再拉你上来,我们就都得救了。“Oh, its a fine idea,” said the goat. “嗯,真的是个好办法。”山羊说。And the fox got upon her back and jumped out of the well. 狐狸跳到他的背上,再用力一跳,跳出了井口。“Now help me out, please!” said t

4、he goat. “现在请把我救出去吧!”山羊说。“Why didnt you think of how to get out, before you jumped in?” The fox said,then ran away. “为什么你在跳进井里之前没有想着如何上来呢?”狐狸说完就跑开了。The story tell us: Think twice before your action. 这个故事告诉我们:三思而后行。Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well 坐井观天There is a frog. 有一只青蛙住在井底,He lives in a

5、 well and he never goes out of the well. 他从来没有去过井外面。He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well. 他以为天空就和井口一样大。One day a crow comes to the well. 一天, 一只乌鸦飞到井边,He sees the frog and says, “Frog, lets have a talk.” 看见青蛙,就对它说:“青蛙,咱们聊聊吧。”Then the frog asks, “Where are you from?” 青蛙就问他:“你从哪里来?”“I f

6、ly from the sky,” the crow says. “我从天上上来。”The frog feels surprised and says, 青蛙惊讶了,就说:“The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. “天空就只有这井口这么大,How do you fly from the sky?” 你怎么会从天上飞老呢?”The crow says, “The sky is very big. 乌鸦说:“天空很大。You always stay in the well, so you dont know the world is big

7、.” 只不过你一直呆在井里,所有不知道世界很大。”The frog says, “I dont believe.” 青蛙说:“我不相信。”But the crow says, “You can come out and have a look by yourself.” 乌鸦说:“你可以出来,自己看看嘛。”So the frog comes out from the well. 于是青蛙来到井外。He is very surprised. How big the world is! 他十分惊讶,原来世界这么大!Later,peopleuse ittodescribethe oneswho ha

8、veavery narrow view.后来,人们就用“坐井观天”来比喻一个人的思想狭隘。The wolf and the lamb (狼和小羊)Once upon a time a wolf was lapping at a stream. 从前,一只狼在溪流喝水,When he looked up, he saw a lamb drinking a little lower down. 看到一只小羊在下游喝水。Theres my supper, he thought. 那是我的晚餐,”狼想,I will find some excuse to catch it. “我要找一个借口吃掉他。”

9、Then he called out to the lamb, How dare you muddle the water?于是,他恶狠狠地对小羊说:“你怎么敢搅浑浊了我的水?” No, master, said the lamb. 我没有,先生,”小羊回答说,I cannot muddle your water because it runs down from you to me. “我在下游喝水,怎么能搅浑浊你喝的水呢?”Well, then, said the wolf. “那么,”狼见此计不成,又说道,Why did you call me bad names this time l

10、ast year? “你去年的今天为什么说我的坏话?” It was impossible, said the lamb. “不可能,”小羊说,I am only six months old. “我现在才只有六个月大。”I dont care, shouted the wolf. “我不管,”狼说,If it was not you, it must be your father. “如果不是你,就是你的爸爸。”After that he rushed at the poor little lamb and ate it up. 说完,他就冲向小山羊,把他吃掉了。This story tel

11、ls us: A bad man always has excuse when he wants to do bad thing. 寓意: 当一个坏人想为自己所做的坏事寻找借口时,他不会在乎这个借口是否恰当。Belling the cat 老鼠开会Long ago, there was a big cat in the house. 从前,一所房子里面有一只大猫,He caught many mice while they were stealing food. 他抓住了很多偷东西的老鼠。One day the mice had a meeting to talk about the way

12、to deal with their common enemy.一天,老鼠在一起开会商量如何对付他们共同的敌人。Some said this, and some said that.会上大家各有各的主张At last a young mouse said that he had a good idea.最后,一只小老鼠站出来说他有一个好主意。We could tie a bell around the neck of the cat. 我们可以在猫的脖子上绑一个铃铛,Then when he comes near, 那么如果他来到附近,we can hear the sound of the

13、bell, and run away. 我们听到铃声就可以马上逃跑。”Everyone was agree with that idea, 大家都赞同这个建议,but an old wise mouse said, 这时一只聪明的老耗子站出来说:That is a good idea, but who will tie the bell to the cat? “这的确是个绝妙的主意,但是谁来给猫的脖子上绑铃铛呢?”The mice looked at each other, but nobody spoke. 老鼠们面面相觑,谁也没有说话。The story tell us:Easier s

14、aid than done. 寓意: 有些事情说起来容易,做起来却很难。The fox and the grapesOne hot summer day a fox was walking through an orchard. He stopped before a bunch of grapes. They were ripe and juicy.Im just feeling thirsty, he thought. So he backed up a few paces, got a running start, jumped up, but could not reach the g

15、rapes.He walked back. One, two, three, he jumped up again, but still, he missed the grapes.The fox tried again and again, but never succeeded. At last he decided to give it up.He walked away with his nose in the air, and said“I am sure they are sour.”一个炎热的夏日,狐狸走过一个果园,他停在一大串熟透而多汁的葡萄前。狐狸想:“我正口渴呢。”于是他后退了几步,向前一冲,跳起来,却无法够到葡萄。狐狸后退又试。一次,两次,三次,但是都没有得到葡萄。狐狸试了一次又一次,都没有成功。最后,他决定放弃,他昂起头,边走边说:“葡萄还没有成熟,我敢肯定它是酸的。”寓意: 在经历了许多尝试而不能获得成功的时候,有些人往往故意
