1、Unit Four: Landscape Design,Modern Chinese Garden,Vanke EDAW a high-end residential community in Southern Chinas Guangdong provinceThe site has earned the sobriquet the Village Garden, so named to suggest its status as the fifth Lingnan garden, an addition and reference to the four traditional Lingn

2、an gardens in Southern China which are known for their beauty and elegance The project area is sited within a developing valley district, with green hills and a verdant landscape serving as its picturesque backdrop.,The site area, approximately 13 hectares, is located within the Shenzhen Special Eco

3、nomic Zone(SEZ), a 15-minute drive from the downtown area with convenient transportation links. it is an ideal location for a growing number of affluent young professionals and families that will live and work in this area. The project is divided into three phases,The first phase is the Village Cent

4、er,which is envisioned as the center of community activity with small Shops, restaurants, cafes and a marketA 300-year old historic wood-frame house has also been relocated to serve as a cultural arts community center and tea house, Phase One will also include the Village Villas and its showcase uni

5、ts,Phase Two will consist of townhouse and mid-rise apartments,all of which are centered on a variety of garden courtyards. The third phase will consist of high-rise towers with a family-oriented podium landscape. The landscape for this development will serve as multiple-role spaces for living,recre

6、ation and leisure, making it the connective and communal fabric that threads together the development, helping it achieve a collective sense of what characterize the idea of “Village“ .,EDAW based its design approach on exploring the nature and qualities of what traditional “Village“ living means wi

7、thin a contemporary context,or one that considers the needs and amenities of modern living,EDAE then created a five-point design approach that focused on gardens, simplicity, environment, landscape and recreation,These ideas have been developed to create opportunities for interaction-as places for t

8、he people-where children play, seniors gather and neighbors become friends。 playing with the dynamic between interior and exterior spatial relationships, and creating opportunities for life indoors to extend outward into the gardens, courtyards and lanes,Through creating nuance and implied circumsta

9、nces in the gardens, the design uses indirect or subtle events that allow for the possibility and experiences of surprise and discovery It is important to consider that these ideas are not intended to recreate a traditional village, but to incorporate its many assets:its artfulness, its sense of sty

10、le, space and proportion, as well its ability to create a sense of place and community,Shenyang Architecture University Campus,80 hectares suburban campus for Shenyang Architectural University the new site for the proposed campus was originally a rice field, the origin of the famous “Northeast Rice“

11、,. only about one US dollar per square meter was allocated for landscaping. 320,000 sq m of new university buildings .,The concept of this design seeks to use rice, native plants and crops to keep the landscape productive while also fulfilling its new role as an environment for learning raise awaren

14、us. 2005 Professional Awards Jury Comments,In March of 2002, the Shenyang City in North Chinas Liaoning Province commissioned the designer to create a new, 80 hectares suburban campus for Shenyang Architectural University. Originally located downtown, the university was established in 1948 and playe

15、d an important role in educating architects and civil engineers for the city of Shengyang and for the country as well. But due to a recent dramatic national surge of interest in architecture in China, the enrollment of the school ballooned, creating congestion and overcrowding in its downtown, urban

16、 location. After much deliberation, the school decided the best solution was to move the entire campus to the suburbs. This project is one portion of the campus at the southwest side of the campus, with an area of 3 hectares.,The design had to contend with the following existing site conditions and budgetary limitations: Former agricultural use Small budget Short timeline,The concept of this design seeks to use rice, native plants and crops to keep the landscape productive while
