Its polite to eat up the food on your plate, so dont take more food than you need. Maybe you dont know whether its polite or not to speak loudly at the table. The answer is that yo

9、r have another think. 你最好再想一想。,拓展 (1) 否定形式是将否定副词not直接放在had better的后面。如: You had better not miss the last bus. 你最好不要错过末班公共汽车。 (2) had better通常不以普通疑问句的形式出现。但有时用于否定疑问句,常用Hadnt+主语+better.?结构,作为一种劝告形式,比肯定形式的语气更婉转一些。如: Hadnt you better take an umbrella? 你不认为该带一把伞吗?,2. 10、貌的表现。 follow 为动词,在此意为“遵守,遵循; 贯彻,执行”。它常用的含义为“跟随”。 翻译时要根据语境选用恰当的词义。如: He followed me into the room. 他跟着我进了房间。 Winter follows autumn. 秋去冬来。,Follow this road until you get to the corner, then turn left. 沿着这条路走到拐角处, 然后向左转。 You speak so fast that I can not follow you. 你讲得这么快,我都没有听懂。(此句中follow=understand),

Maybe you dont know whether its polite or not to speak loudly at the table. 可能你不了解在餐桌上大声讲话是不 是礼貌的行为。 whether or not 表示“是否”。又如: Let me know whether you can come or no

13、t. 让我知道你是否能来。,拓展whether与if 的用法区别:,(1) 共同点: whether和if都可以引导宾语从句,表示“是否”,在口语或间接引语中两者可以互换使用。如: I wonder if / whether I can get some advice from you. Ask him whether / if he can come.,(2) 区别: a. whether常可以与or或or not直接连用,而if一般不能。 正:Let me know whether you can come or not. 误:Let me know if you can come or

14、not. b. 当宾语从句提到句首时,只能用whether引导,而不能用if。 正:Whether it is true or not, I cant tell. 误:If it is true or not, I cant tell.,c. Whether后可以跟带to的不定式,if则 不能。 正:I dont know whether to accept or refuse. 误:I dont know if to accept or refuse. d. whether引导的从句可放于介词之后, 但if不能。 正:I worry about whether I hurt her feel

15、ings. 误:I worry about if I hurt her feelings.,e. whether引导的从句可作主语、表语或 同位语,而if不能。 正:It was uncertain whether he would come. 误:It was uncertain if he would come. 正:His first question was whether Tom had arrived yet. 误:His first question was if Tom had arrived yet. 正:We must consider the question wheth

16、er we will take these measures. 误:We must consider the question if we will take these measures.,6. When you drink to somebody, youd better raise your glass and take only a sip. 当你与其他人一起饮酒时,你最好端起酒杯抿一小口就可以了。 drink to somebody 与某人对饮, 干杯 take a sip 抿一小口,sip在这里是名词。,7.
