13、f the world, such as Asia and Latin America. The number of recent immigrants has sky-rocketed. Why? In the Unites States people are free to say and write about almost everything. Freedom is so much a part of American life that it is often taken for granted. Indeed, the belief in freedom of the indiv

14、idual is probably the most basic and most strongly held of all American beliefs. The desire for freedom is one of the main reasons why so many people from the world have come to this country.,By “freedom”, Americans mean the desire and the ability of all individuals to control their own future and f

15、ortune without outside interference from any others. American believes the individual must learn to rely on himself or risk losing freedom. This means achieving both financial and emotional independence from their parents as early as possible, usually by age 18 or 21. To Americans, they strongly bel

16、ieve that they should take care of themselves, solve the problem on their own and “stand on their own two feet”. Being dependent not only do they risk losing freedom, but also risk losing the respect of their peers.,Americans believe that everyone has a chance to succeed. This is the second important reason why immigrants have been drawn to the United States, and it is important to understand what Americans mean when they
