4、carbonisation in Ireland EconomyCO2 lasts about 100 years in the atmosphere,creating a better environment for future generations is already under way.It is becoming more widely accepted that the advantages of tackling climate change and decarbonisation more than justify the associated costs with ach

5、ieving these goals.An clear benefit of decarbonisation in Ireland is the avoidance of EU sanctioned fines which could reach an estimated600m before utilizing banked and purchased carbon credits.Research has indicated that each benefit of decarbonisation can be linked to anotherthis is the concept of

6、 co-benefits.This is seen where improved air quality can improve our overall health and reduce strain on our health service.A move towards electric vehicles is creating a stronger market for manufactures whist also reducing costs for citizens and improving air quality.Air QualityAir Quality is consi

7、dered to be one of the most important aspects of decarbonisation.This is because of the enormous benefits associated with cleaner air.Recent data published by the European Environment Agency indicates that Dublin,Ireland hasGoodlevels or air quality,which is highly encouraging.Emerging MarketsIn sim

8、ple terms,as the demand for renewable energy sources increases,so too does the market for providing these services.This means that companies producing energy efficient products such as LED Lighting,Heat Pumps and Solar products for example are expected to thrive more in the current and future market

9、.From an economic point of view this is very encouraging for those sectors.SustainabilityBenefits such as improved air quality and increased energy efficiency.The benefits of moving away from fossil fuels to run our vehicle drive a large emerging market for electric and hybrid vehicles as far reachi

10、ng in terms of economic growth and cost savings for Irish citizens.The costs associated with renewable sources such as wind and solar are reducing continually,which counteract the capital investments required to develop these sources of energy.Further benefits are realised by the reduced costs and r

11、eliance on depleting fossil fuels.3.Government EffortsIn an effort to achieve Irelands goals around decarbonisation the Government has set out a number of initiatives.3.1.Implementing a Single Electricity Market in 2007The Single Energy Market combined the North and South of Ireland into one shared

12、source and market for electricity.This is was significant structure change to the market in Ireland when introduced in 2007.Aside from being successful in reducing energy prices for consumers and opening a more competitive market place there is a substantial focus on the environmental benefits of th

13、is agreement.Two main points from the memorandum between Ireland and the UK state:1.facilitate the participation of renewable energy generators in the market;2.take into account the operation of arrangements in relation to the environment;(SEM Memorandum,2007)3.2.Implementing part L in building regu

14、lationsThe Part L requirements under the building regulation have drastically improved the way in which new buildings are constructedplacing an emphasis on reducing the energy required to construct and operate new and existing buildings in Ireland.(CSO,2017)The trend on BER Ratings since the regulat

15、ions were introduced in 2007 has been very encouraging.Additionally,Part L is be refined further to meet the near zero energy building requirements of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.3.3.Publishing new policy frameworksProduced by the Department of Communications,Energy&Natura
