Sometimes even more than the subject may be dropped at the beginning of a sentence if the meaning is clear; Though the prep

14、aratory there is not a subject, it behaves like one and is often omitted;3. To avoid repetition, a verb is frequently left out when the same verb has appeared in an earlier part of the sentence: Then winter came and with it (came) the snow.4. Omission of the auxiliary or the principal part of the ve

15、rb compound is very frequent: Summer had come and (had) gone. Can you do that? Yes, I can (do it).5. The verb do/does/did frequently stands for another verb which has appeared earlier. This is a very important use of this auxiliary, which comes in very handy at times. As there is no counterpart of it in Chinese, it should be thoroughly mastered through constant practice. e.g. Do you go there every day? Yes, I do (= go there every day). Did you see her? Yes, I did ( = saw her).Shall I read it? Please do (= read it).I like Beijing very much, as everybody does (= likes it) who has been there.
