2、cial opening of the Canadian Tulip Festival,which is the worlds largest tulip festival.During this period,Canadas capital will be alive with not only blooming tulips,but music,parades,fireworks,and people from around the world.,Why does Ottawa celebrate the Tulip Festival with such enthusiasm?The tr

3、adition began about 70 years ago.The German army had invaded the Netherlands in May,1940,and the royal family was forced to run away from their country.They went first to London then on to Ottawa where they were given Government House as a shelter. In 1943,Princess Julianas daughter,Princess Margrie

4、t was born at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.And the room where Princess Margriet was born was announced to be an official gift to the Netherlands by the Canadian government so that she would be born in her own countrys place.According to the Netherlandss law,anyone who wasnt born in the Netherlands will

5、 lose their citizenship;therefore Margriet would have no right to be the princess of the Netherlands.,After the royal family returned to their homeland in 1945,Princess Juliana gave 100,000 tulip bulbs to the Canadian government and the citizens of Ottawa as a reward.This started a tradition and eve

6、ry year ever since,another 100,000 bulbs were sent to Ottawa and planted all around the city.Over the next decade,the Canadian Tulip Festival became bigger and bigger and tourists started making Ottawa their destination in early May. Now this festival is not only a love of flowers,but also a symbol
