Introduction of the film/play: The story happened in a film named My Fair Lady. Have you ever seen the film? It won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor. Audrey

4、 Hepburn starred in this film. Actually, this film is a shortened version of the play Pygmalion adapted by Shaw. George Bernard Shaw, Irish dramatist, is a leading figure in the 20th century theater. In 1925 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Shaw accepted the honour but refused the mone

5、y. He was a very humorous playwright (剧作家).2. It is an adaptation of a classic Greek story about Pygmalion: This play Bernard Shaw adapted is based on a Greek myth about Pygmalion. Ask the students to look at the captions and invite one student to work out the story: Pygmalion is a sculptor who does

6、 not like woman. However, he creates a perfect stone woman who is so beautiful that he falls in love with her. He asks the Goddess Hera to make his dream come true by turning the stone statue into a real woman. This Hera does and the two are married and happily together.The play by Shaw has the same

7、 theme as the Greek story. Professor Higgins is a man who doesnt like women either and is very rude to them. But eventually he also fell in love with someone.Lets enjoy the play. While-reading1. skimming: . Who are the main characters of this act? . What do they do respectively?. What are they doing

8、 at the beginning of the play?Eliza Doolittle (E): a poor flower girl who is ambitious to improve herself. Professor Higgins (H): an expert in phonetics, convinced that the quality of a persons English decides his/ her position in society. Colonel Pickering (CP): an officer in the army and later a f

9、riend of Higgins who sets him a task. They are sheltering from the rain outside a theatre.2. careful-reading: At the beginning of the act, E directly greeted to a gentleman. But did they know each other? A. why did Eliza greet to the gentleman?B. Did the gentleman buy the flowers from her? Why? C. W

10、hen Eliza tried to persuade him to buy some flowers again for three pence, whats his reaction/feeling? Well, through the whole process, all that Eliza spoke to the gentleman was set down by Higgins. But at first Eliza misunderstood him. As far as she was concerned, sth unpleasant happened. watch a v
