The traditional view holds that translation is consider

2、ed as a secondary work dependent on and subservient to the original text, just as women are inferior to men under patriarchal power. Unsatisfied with the notion that translator, translation and women are all relegated to the lowest status, feminist translators do their utmost to cast away the conven

3、tional sexism ideas in translation studies and social ideology. The core of feminist translation theory is to “identify and critique the tangle of concepts which relegates both women and translation to the bottom of the social and literary ladder”. (Simon 1996:1),In the 1970s, a favorable cultural c

4、ontext for feminist translation was created by womens liberation, along which gender issues were brought into academic discussions and language was regarded as a powerful political tool. Helene Cixous, Mary Daly, Nicole Brossard began feminist experimental writing. Then, during the 1980s, researcher

5、s in the translation circle began to carry on translation studies from the perspective of feminism, and feminist translation theory came into being, such Canadians feminist translators as Barbara Godard, Sherry Simon, Susanne de Lotbiniere-Harwood and Luise von Flotow have contributed a lot to the s

6、haping of feminist translation theory.,Feminist translation theory,(1)eliminates discriminations against women in translation theory and practice;,(2)redefines the relationship between the original text and the translation to make them enjoy equal status;,(3)advocates that translation is not only a

7、problem language skills and transfer, but also a problem of politics, culture, ideology, etc.,The philosophy of feminist translation theory is to break through the dichotomy of thinking manner in traditional translation theories. The translation criterion is to follow feminist claims in order to ach

8、ieve the translation purpose of extending womens right of speech and making women visible in translations. Through rewriting text in feminist way, feminist translation theory advocates that the status of the translator is equal to the author and the relationship between translation and its original

9、is equal and complementary.,In 2000, Liao Qiyi began to mention the influence of feminism on translation studies in his book The Exploration of Contemporary Western Translation Theories. In 2001, Xu Baoqiang and Yuan Wei translated Gender in Translation in their book The Politics of Language and Tra

10、nslation. In 2002, Liao Qiyi summarized the main viewpoints of feminist translation in his article. In 2003, Ge Xiaoqin revealed the essence of feminist translation.,Previous Studies of Feminist translation theory in China,Previous Studies of Feminist translation theory in China,In 2004, four articl

11、es were published in Chinese Translators Journal: Jiang Xiaohua analyzed the influences of deconstruction, post-colonialism and cultural studies on feminist translation theory. Liu Junping explored the historical relationship between feminism and translation through criticizing the gender metaphors

12、in translation. Xu Lai studied the translators subjectivity from gender perspective. Zhang Jinghua focused on the subversion of feminist translation theory to traditional translation studies. Feminist translation study has been focused so much on theoretical introduction that the study of feminist t

13、ranslation practice is still lacking.,Purposes of My Research,1) to explore whether Ma Yajing shows her feminist consciousness in the translation process 2) to explores the translation strategies she uses to present her feminist consciousness in her translations 3) to emphasize the contributions of

14、feminist translation theory to traditional Chinese translation studies and its influences on Chinese young female translators,Research Significance,Feminist translation theory indicates that translation is not only a language transfer but also a cultural mediation. Feminist translation theory redefi

15、nes the role of translator as an active participant in the creation of meaning instead of being inferior to the author. Feminist translation advocates the equal relationship between the original and translation.,Conclusion of Research,1) Ma Yajings feminist consciousness is presented in her choice o

16、f texts. Feminist translators and female translators are both inclined to consciously or unconsciously use gender language to tell the feelings and stories of women. They tend to choose the feminist writing as their translation materials.
