4、landculturalcontext.MyattentionwasfirstdirectedtoDTSbyitspeculiarcharacteristicofobservation,descriptionandexplanation.Thesubjectiswhateverhappensintranslationpractice,fromthedeterminationofprospectivefunctionoftranslationtotheprocessoftranslatorschoiceofstrategies,brainstormingandtherevision,tothef
5、inalproductmakingappearanceinthetargetcommunity.ThemethodofDTSisbasicallydescriptive.Theprescriptivetendencyandtheproblem-solutionpatternisabandoned.Translationphenomenaarenoteddown.Withaccumulateddata,someunderlyingtruthsabouttranslationwillcomeoutwhichwillprovetobeinstructivenotonlyfortheoreticalp
6、robebutalsoforappliedtranslationpractice.Iwillapplythisdescriptivemethodinthecasestudyofthisthesis.AconvenienttoolhasbeensetuptoconductDTS.“Norm”isoperativeateverystageofdescriptionandexplanation.Function,processandproductandtheirrelationshipaswellareskeletalstructureofwhatconstitutedescriptivestudi

9、,normetc.MethodolgyIwillinthispartdiscussthemethodologyofDTSbeforeIapplythesametothecasestudyinthisthesiswithemphasistobeplacedonsemioticapproachandtheconceptnorm.DTSincontrasttoothertheoriesAcontraststudywillbeconductedherewiththeobjectivetofindthedifferenceofDTSfromothertheoriessuchasequivalenceth
10、eoryandtheChineseXinDaYacriteria.Someadvantagewillpossiblybeshowninthisstudy.CasestudyInthispart,translationofTheDreamofRedMansions(alsotranslatedasTheStoryofTheStone)willbeunderinvestigationinlightofDTS.Translationsamplestobequotedherewillbeselectedatrandom.ConclusionBasedontheaboveelaborationofDTS
