1、Sherlock Holmes,About the Author,Conan Doyle, Sir Author was born on May 11, 1859 Edinburgh, Scotland. Despite being raised in an Irish-Catholic household, Conan Doyle emerged an agnostic. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh between 1876 and 1881 and opened a private practice in Ports
2、mouth. Business was slow, however, and he began writing short stories to fill his time.,In 1887, Conan Doyle s first significant work, A Study in Scarlet, was published in Beetons Christmas Annual, The story introduced his hero, detective Sherlock Holmes, who later became very famous.,After The Adve
3、ntures of Sherlock Holmes was serialized in Strand Magazine, the author tired of his popular creation, and tired to killed off his hero in The Final Problem, but was compelled in 1903 to revive him, in response to Holmes enthusiastic fans. In all, Holmes appeared in 56 of Conan Doyles short stories
4、and four of his novels. Other works include science stories, historical novels, plays, romances, poetry and so on.Many of the Sherlock Holmes stories have been translated into other languages and have been made even more popular in plays, movies and TV.Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930 at the age
5、of seventy-one. But each day, the number of his readers increases, as someone discovers, for the first time, the amazing Mr. Holmes.,Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the creation of British
