4、g Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It is a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States.The real origin of Thanksgiving Day in America was on September 8, 1565. The people who held it were French,

5、but they were killed by the Dutchman the next year. Now the most accepted origin is this:In Sep.1620, some pilgrims couldnt tolerate the rules of the church in England. So they sailed to Holland . Its better, but they were not satisfied. To seek religious freedom, they begun the journey to America b

6、y the ship Mayflower. After 65 days, they set ground at Plymouth Rock on Dec.11,1620. Its winter then. But there was not enough food and its very cold,and they didnt adapted to the environment. After the harsh winter, only 56 survived. The next year, with the help of the native Indians, they have a

7、nice harvest. Then they decided to celebrate with a feast. It lasted for 3 days.The copy of the Mayflower is in Plymouth now. These houses are the residential sites of then.Nowadays , the contents of Thanksgiving Day are much richer.Family get together to have a feast. Before meal, theyll pray. Just

Then begins the dinner. As Thanksgiving is the second most important holiday of America, the dinner is very rich. The tr

9、aditional food and of course the main dish is turkey, others just like pumpkin ,corn and so on. And if youre a vegetarian, you can buy tofurky, its made of tofu. The dinner is very rich. On this day, in the White House, the president of America will chose one or two turkey to set free. No one can ki

10、ll it. The chosen turkey will be sent to a farm and live the rest of its life there. I think thats a way to express thanks to the nature.There are also a lot of TV specials on Thanksgiving Day. Most family will sit together to enjoy a soccer match.And there will be parades around America to celebrat

11、e Thanksgiving Day. The most famous one is the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. And the most famous thing during the parade is the balloon. Huge different balloon! Were familiar with some balloons. Such as Mr. potato, the Smurf, Spoopys master Charlie, Hello Kitty, uncle McDonald, Snoopy,

12、and Shrek.The day after Thanksgiving Day is the Black Friday! Why we call it Black Friday? Because its the beginning of the crazy shopping month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. On this day almost all stores are on HUGE sales. You have to wake up really early and fight off people to get really good deals on all the stuff you want to buy.
