2、, commerce and logistics flourish.The maritime industry in Singapore is vibrant. It is home to over4,400 shipping companies and maritime ancillary service providers.It contributes about seven per cent to the Singapore GDP andprovides jobs for more than 100,000 workers. The industry hasbeen forecaste

3、d to grow between 6.5 and 7 per cent annuallyover the next decade or so.Singapore has been ranked by the United Nations Conference onTrade and Development (UNCTAD) as one of the worlds mostimportant maritime countries. It has also been consistently rankedby the World Economic Forum as one of the mos

4、t competitivecountries in the world. The wide rangeof maritime or maritime-related sectorsoffers many maritime businessopportunities.HUB PORTSingapore is the busiest port in the worldin terms of shipping tonnage, with some140,000 v

6、essel calls annually. In 2004,total vessel arrivals at the port exceededone billion gross tons for the first timein our maritime history. We are also aworld leading hub for containertransshipment, well known for ourefficiency and speedy turnarounds.BUNKERING CENTREWith some 20 million tonnes of bunk

7、erssupplied each year to ships from all overthe world, Singapore is the worlds topbunkering port. About 80 bunkersuppliers and 130 bunker tankers operatehere, providing competitive, efficient andtimely service to vessels in the port.02SINGAPORE. 8、ND CONVERSION CENTREWe are a thriving international centre forshipbuilding, ship repairs and conversions.We command over 60 per cent of theworld market share in building jack-uprigs and converting Floating ProductionStorage and Offloading (FPSO) units.Singapore is also a niche player in theconstruct

9、ion of customised andspecialised vessels.PETROCHEMICAL HUBSingapore is the worlds third largest oilrefining centre and is fast becoming thepetrochemical hub of the Asia-Pacific. Ithas developed a dedicated petrochemicalcomplex on Jurong Island - anamalgamation of seven small islands justoff the west

10、ern coast of Singapore. Theisland is home to more than 70 chemicalscompanies with a total investment valueof S$22 billion.CRUISE HUBAs a global maritime hub, Singapore goesbeyond container terminals and shipyards.We are also a regional cruise centre forholidaymakers. Annually, about 650,000visitors

11、pass through our internationalcruise terminal.
