A. protect B. conserve C. relieve D. free 解析：conserve 的意思是保存；relieve 的本意是解除、缓解；free 的意思是使自由、释放。Shield 的本意是名词，盾牌，与选项最接近的就
2、是 A 选项。 此类题型非常多，对于单词基本意思的考察占到词汇考察的 60%，题目达10 道之多，所以同学们平时在学习新编大学英语和阅读英语文章时，要尽量多记单词，但是要有方法，巧记单词，并及时复习。 另外还有对词汇引申义和一词多译的考查，另外还有对词汇引申义和一词多译的考查，如： I knew my father would discipline me for my actions.
