The Family Planning Commission of Changning Distirict, Shanghai,200042)【ABSTRACT】 Objective: To determine the attitudes of unmarried migrant young people towards premaritalsex and sex-related issues. Method: A total of 1 092 15-24-aged unmarried migrant youth in a town of
3、 Shanghaiwere recruited in a cross-sectional, anonymous and questionnaire-based survey, where information on subjectssexualand reproductive health knowledge, attitudes toward sex-related issues, sexual and contraceptive behaviors andneeds on sexual and reproductive health education and services were
4、 collected. Results: Only half of subjectsthought people should remain virgin until they marry. There were high proportions of subjects who thought pre- marital sex was acceptable under following situations: use contraceptives (11.8%), plan to get married (39.3%) andto see whether they are suited to
5、 each other before engaged (23.4%). There were 53.1%, 78.8%, 67.5% and 52.4%of subjects who thought “one night sex” , premarital cohabitation, premarital induced abortion and commercialsex were acceptable/understandable respectively. Males held more open and tolerant attitudes to these behaviorsthan
6、 females. Both male and female subjects held more tolerant attitudes to sex-related behaviors of males than offemales. The proportions with the answers of “Dont know/unsure” to these questions were also high specially among females. Besides, most of subjects thought they could respect partners inten
7、tion or were capable to refuseunwanted sex. Males were more impacted by peers and had higher psychological pressure from peers behaviorsthan females. Conclusion: The attitudes of unmarried migrant young people towards premarital sex and sex-related issues were open; males attitudes were more open than females, and attitudes to sex-related behaviors of maleswere more tolerant than that of females.Key words: migrants; unmarried youth; sex-related issues; attitudes
