9、rse and complements the seminar material defined by BMW Aftersales Training.In preparation for the technical training and inconnection with the practical exercises as part of the training course, this manual will enable the participant to perform service work in the area of the systems network and e
10、lectrical system on the new BMW 3 Series.Previous technical and practical knowledge of the passive safety systems in the BMW 1 Series E87, BMW 5 Series E60 or BMW 7 Series E65 will facilitate better understanding of the systems presented here and their functions.Pleasedonotforgettoworkthrough the Tr

12、 and systems network on the new BMW 3 Series E90. They concern thebus systems, power supply and power management.Bus systemsThe systems network of the BMW 3 Series buildsonthetechnologicalbasisofthecurrent BMW models. The drivetrain control units are linkedthroughthepowertrain-CAN(PT-CAN). To date,
13、the control units of the general vehicle electrical system were connectedvia the K-bus. On the E90 these connections are now made via the K-CAN.The new 3 Series also makes use of MOST- bus technology to connect the control units of the information and communication systems. (IKT). The MOST-bus is th
14、erefore described againinmoredetailcomparedtotheotherbus systems.In addition, various sub-bus systems are used.1 - Bus systems in the new BMW 3 Series E9045Power supplyCompared to the predecessor models various changeshavebeenmadetothepowersupply system of the BMW 3 Series. As usual, the main power
15、distribution boxes are accommodated in the luggage compartment, in the vehicle interior behind the glove compartment and in the engine compartment.The most significant change has been implementedinthevehicleinterior.Thepower distribution box behind the glove compartment is now known as the junction
16、box. The relays and fuses necessary for the power supply to the various electric loads are integrated in this junction box. In addition, the junction box also accepts the junction box control unit.Energy managementPrecisely in the same way as on the E65 and E60 models, an energy management system is used in the BMW 3 Series (E90) to ensure balanced energy management in the vehicle. The energy management system comprises all components in the vehicle that generate, store a
