Factory chimneys can be fitted with devices to

2、 cut down air pollution, but this is expensive. If better pubic transport and cycle lanes were available in towns and cities, people would be less likely to use their cars, reducing the overall amount of pollution.Smoking cigarettes adds to the general levels of air pollution as well as damaging our

3、 health. Cigarette smoke contains chemicals that can cause cancer, a gas which stops oxygen being taken into the blood and a substance called nicotine, which raises blood pressure and makes the heart beat faster. No-smoking areas cut down on this pollution and save non-smokers breathing in other peo

4、ples cigarette smoke. 1.Air pollution index.(API)2. Particulate matter (PM2.5)Air pollution index is a group of numbers which show how serious the air pollution is.A kind of statistics about the diameter of matters we can breathe in.1.carbon dioxide(CO2)2.carbon monoxide(CO)3.suldur dioxide(SO2)4. 5、yoto Protocol!The Kyoto Protocol was an agreement negotiated by many countries in December 1997 and came into force with Russias ratification on February 16, 2005. The reason for the lengthy time span between the terms of agreement being settled upon and the protocol being engaged was due to terms o

6、f Kyoto requiring at least 55 parties to ratify the agreement and for the total of those parties emissions to be at least 55% of global production of greenhouse gases.The Kyoto Protocol, while well intentioned, would appear to be doomed to failing its objectives even before the 2008-2012 averaging p

7、eriod commences. Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising at a frightening rate with no sign of slowing. Global temperatures are continuing to rise. The science behind Kyoto was shaky due to the limited availability of crucial data and knowledge at the time; particularly in regard to posit

8、ive feedback loops in nature being revealed that amplify warming and prevent carbon dioxide from being absorbed. Scientists studying global warming are finding Nature fighting back in ways they never contemplated daily.Kyoto should be viewed as a stepping stone to more drastic action. And that actio

9、n is required now.Water protectionWe all know that water is very important in our life.All kinds of beautiful waterWater scarcity and pollution has become one of the most important things in recent years. In this chapter well discuss both fresh water and wastewater treatment, either for reuse or dis

Furthermore, over 700 million Chinese drink fetid water below World Health Organization standards. Almost 90% of underground water in cities are affected by pollu

11、tion and 80% of Chinas rivers fail to meet standards for fishing. Trees on the hills have been cut down and waste water is being poured continuously into rivers.Furthe

14、rmore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is, in fact, threatening our existence.The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our later generations. Fortunately, more and more people have realized these problems. Measures h

15、ave been taken to cope with these problems by the government. Laws have been passed to stop pollution.
