It is intended to facilitate the use of Chinese as the medium of instruction. This glossary is a revisio
3、n of, and replaces, the one issued to schools in 1988. It is designed to meet the needs of both teachers and students, and removes unnecessary duplication of terms. 5、ATORY NOTES 1. The terms included in this glossary are those commonly used in the teaching of Social Studies in Secondary 1-5. 2. All English terms are entered in alphabetical order, e.g., the term “generation gap” is set out beginning with the letter “g”. 3. Synonyms are given in braces. For exampl
6、e: rubella German measles 德國痳疹 4. When more than one Chinese version is given for an English term, the different Chinese translations are separated by a semi-colon. The first version denotes a preferred version than the latter one. For example: hormones 荷爾蒙；激素；內分 5. Where an English term has differe
7、nt meanings, the corresponding Chinese translations are preceded by numerals (1),(2) . For example: institution (1)機構，(2)制 6. Where there is an abbreviation for a term, it is given in square brackets. For example: Executive Council EXCO 政會議 7. Explanatory notes for the terms are given in brackets. F
