11、e jobs on the electromechanical power steering in the MINI R56.Theoretical and practical knowledge of the MINI models R50/R52/R53 will facilitate understanding of the subject matter presented in this Product Information.Basic knowledge ensures competence in theory and practical applications.2233Intr

12、oduction. Electromechanical Power Steering R56.History and featuresImplementationThe new electromechanical power steering (EPS) fitted on the R56 replaces the electrohydraulic power steering (EHPS) used on the R50, R52 and R53.EPS is used for the first time in the R56 MINI COOPER and MINI COOPER S.

13、The R56 MINI ONE, which will be launched at alaterdate,willalsobeequippedwiththisnew power steering system. There will be a specific EPS system for LHD and RHD versions.Similar electromechanical power steering systems are also used in the BMW Z4 (E85) andBMW3Series(E9x).Byextendingtheuse of this sys

14、tem in a further model, i.e. the R56, the BMW Group is one step closer to using these innovative steering systems throughout its range.MotivationThe use of the electromechanical power steering system provides many advantages for the MINI customer, the environment and the BMW Group as the vehicle man

15、ufacturer.Interactingwiththewell-provenaxleconcepts, a unique combination of driving comfort and dynamics is realized. The steering properties (e.g. the level of steering torque assistance and damping) can be finely tuned by correspondingly programming the electrical system while ensuring optimum ad

16、aptation to the different vehicle philosophies. In the R56, the EPS is set up such that it is very direct and sports-orientated. In addition, an optional driving dynamics control button (SPORT button) makes it possible to switch between standard mode and sports mode. Standard mode is designed for the normal customer and is characterized by the way it resolvestheconflictofobjectivesbetweenlow parkingforcesandspeed-dependentsteeringforces.
