1、TH E KN O W LE DG E OF ENG L IS H25广西民族大学教授钟小佩婚姻的英语表达法（下）五、婚姻的表达1 . 婚姻表达“婚姻”除了用marriage外，还可用union, wedlock等词表达。例如：1 ) The element that was to make possible such a union was trust in each other s love. 对彼此之 间的爱的信任才促成这个婚约。2 ) Children born out of wedlock shall enjoy the same rights as children born in
2、 wedlock. 非婚 生子女享有婚生子女同等的权利。2 . 婚姻的牢固美满婚姻关系“牢固”用strong或stable表达。 例如：Their marriage is strong / stable. 他们的婚姻 关系牢固。“般配”可用well- matched表达。例如：They are a well- matched couple. 他们俩很般 配。“完美的一对”用a good /perfect match或golden couple表达。例如：Film stars Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, once anointed Hollywood s go

8、- out ( 感情不和) ，alienation of affection感情破裂) ，onthe last legs，( “婚姻濒于破裂”) ，on the rock。 例如： 1 ) We had a falling- out. 我们感情不和。 2 ) Their marriage is on its last legs. 他们的婚姻已经濒临破裂。 3 ) Their romance has been on the rock for some time. 他们的婚姻濒于破裂已经一段时间 了。此外，rock还可以作动词，意为“动摇”。 例如：Their marriage has been

15、竹马的情人”为 childhood sweetheart。 “情敌”多用rival in love 表达，媒体有时也用love rival表达。例如：The expert gave the woman some tips to deal with a love rival. 专家给这个女人一些对付情敌 的技巧。 “爱情骗子”用love- cheat或love rat表达。The ref was exposed as a love- cheat. 有人揭 露这位教练是爱情骗子。2 . 夫妻双方有婚姻关系的双方用party表达。例如：Marriage must be based upon the
16、complete willingness of both man and woman. Neither party may use compulsion on the other party. 结婚必须 男女双方完全自愿，不许任何一方对他方加以强迫。3 . 第三者 “第三者”用the third party表达。例如：Bigamy shall be prohibited. Cohabitation ofa married person with any third party shall be prohibited. 禁止重婚。禁止有配偶者与他人同 居。在离婚案中，原告的配偶与通奸者被称为correspondent（共同被告）。 “情妇”用mistress表达，也可称为kept woman, 其字面意思是“被人供养的女人”。女人“傍大款”的表达为：find a sugar daddy,be a mistress for a rich man或lean on a moneybag。有些人将“第
