5、phy.20Acknowledgement21AbstractWith the development of society, science and technology, recognized as a world language, English is becoming more important in China and the number of people communicating in English for various purposes is rapidly increasing worldwide. As time passes on, learning a fo

6、reign language is not only to read and appreciate literary works. The need of oral communication becomes very urgent, and listening greatly affects communicating ability. With this realization, most students are enthusiastic about improving listening ability. Teachers are working hard to help the st

7、udents master the language. But there exists a real difficulty: however hard they study in the class, once the students leave classroom they are back into a totally Chinese world. They may have the ability to read magazines or journals in English, but they find it very difficult to listen to or comm

8、unicate with a native English speaker. Under such circumstances, there is something missing in our classroom This paper discusses the issue of improving listening ability. It analyses the natures of listening and the reasons for students poor listening ability. It also lists the factors that influen

9、ce English listening comprehension and the strategies to be taken that might improve students listening. Some methods are of significance and may prove beneficial to English language teaching in China.Key WordsReasons; affecting factors; listening comprehension; strategies 摘要摘要随着社会的进步、科学技术的日新月异,英语作为

10、一门公认的世界语言,在中国占有举足轻重的地位。为了各种需要而用英语交际的人也在急剧增加。学英语只是为了能读文学作品的时代已经过去了。能用英语进行日常交际变得十分必要,而听力在很大程度上影响着一个人的交际能力。正因为如此,越来越多的学生热忠于提高英语听力能力。然而欲速则不达。因为语言是离不开环境的,不管他们在教室里如何努力学习、练习,离开了教室就回到了纯正的中文世界从而脱离了英语环境。所以存在这样的现状:大多数学生可以阅读英文原版的报刊、杂志,但却苦于不能和一个地道的外国人交谈。在这种情况下,我们的教学存在着遗漏的地方。这篇文章分析了听力的本质,以及学生听力水平差的种种原因。紧接着列出了影响听力

11、理解的一些重要因素并且提出了相应的策略,从而有助于学生提高英语听力。其中的一些方法意义重大,或许对中国的英语教学有一些帮助。关键词关键词原因;影响因素;听力理解;策略IntroductionWith Chinas entry into the WTO and opening its markets to the outside world, the demand for English speaking proficiency among English learners is rising. In recent years, the communicative approach has be

12、en used more and more widely in Chinese English tertiary education, and therefore, students communicative competence has been stressed. The changes to the requirements of College English Test (Band 4 and Band 6), National Matriculation English Test, and Graduate Record Examination make listening tea

13、ching a priority all over the country. The need for competence in listening is increasingly recognized, so that listening teaching has recently attracted considerable attention. However, careful observation of college English teaching practice shows that the teaching of listening skills is still a w

14、eak link in the language teaching process. Despite students have mastered the basical elements of English grammar and vocabulary, their listening comprehension is often weak. Through systematic study of basic English teaching stages at university it has been recognized that while students integrated skills in reading, writing, translating have been improved, but their listening and speaking capacities have been left behind. The traditional GrammarTranslation method of teaching English in China has been found inadequate to the demands for producing efficie
