I will try my best to make your visit smooth.About two km to the southeast of the suburban township of Xunxian County, a key historic and cultural city of the country, Dapi Hill stands upright alone on the plain. It was called Lishan Hill in the ancient time. Emper
3、or Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty granted it the name of Green Hill. It got the name Dapi Hill in the Tang Dynasty and keeps it to the present time. Neighbored by Fuqiu Hill in the west and embraced by the old course of the Yellow River in the east, Dapi Hill is the remaining range of the Taihan
4、g Mountains. Because it stands along on the plain, it looks so high and steep with an altitude of 135.5 meters above sea level. Extending 1.75 km from north to south, the hill covers an area of 1.66 square km.Despite a small hill, Dapi Hill is famous for its natural beauty and rich in cultural relic
5、s and historical sites. The sight of the nature of Dapi Hill changes a few times within a day and varies in seasons. Taoist and Buddhist temples, pavilions and bowers, stone caves and inscriptions make the hill appeal to tourists. The major attractions are Tianning Temple, Temple of Lv Dongbin ,Taij
6、i Palace and the stone inscriptions.Tianning Temple is located at the east foot of Dapi Hill. It was first built in the Northern Wei Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Shizong of the Later Zhou Dynasty, Buddhism was abolished throughout the country. While ninety percent of the Buddhist temples wer
7、e destroyed, Tianning Temple was permitted to exist. The tablet “permitted not to be abandoned” made in the 6th year in the reign of Emperor Xiande of the Zhou Dynasty still erects in the temple now. It provides important information for the study of the history of how Buddhism was abolished in the
8、Late Zhou Dynasty of the Five-Dynasty period. In the Buddhist Sutra Hall of the temple there are many rare Buddhist sutras and a statue of Goddess of Mercy with thousand hands and thousand eyes. It is a very lively and exquisite statue. In the imposing Grand Buddha Hall, there is a giant sitting Bud
9、dha of 26.4 meters tall .This scene is widely known as “big Buddha, small hall”. Carved in the Later Zhou Dynasty, the Buddha is considered the NO. 1 Buddha and Tianning Temple are historic sites under state- level protection.To the west of Dapi Hill lies the quiet and peaceful Temple of Lv Dongbin.
10、 One of the immortals in the story “Eight Immortals Crossing the sea”, Lv Dongbin is a Taoist master of the Tang Dynasty. Facing west, the temple was built in 15th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. The main hall of the temple is Qianyuan Hall, in which a statue of Lv Dongbin is enshrined.
11、Opposite to the back slope of the Qianyuan Hall, it is Chuanyang Cave, where Lv Dongbin had once lived. Down from here, there are Fanghu Taoist Temple and Cave of Immortal Zhang.On the summit of the Hill, it is a surprisingly high and steep Taiji Palace, which is the symbol of Dapi Hill. Built in th
12、e 16th year of Emperor Kangxi (1677 AD)，its a three-storeyed octagonal building with a height of 33 meters. It is distributed at eight directions according to the Eight Diagrams, hence the name “Bagua(Eight Diagrams)Building”. Originally the three ancestors of Taoism were consecrated inside. But the
13、y no longer exist now. To the southeast slope of the hill, there are Kings Temple, Zhongjun Paviliion, Tianqi Temple and Xingguo Monastery.All over the hill tourists can find many steles and inscriptions of the notables in different dynasties, of which there are still over 300 pieces left of the Son
14、g, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. On the inscription of Dapi Hill on the south cliff of the Grand Buddha Hall, there are 63 Chinese characters of regular script. On some of the steles, there are Chinese, Khitan and Mongolian characters. They make Dapi Hill elegant and solemn, simple, unsophisticated and magnificent.Ok, our visit will have a short rest, now everyone can visit freely, but I must remind everyone should pay attention to safety and remember our set time.
