Thank you so much.Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the rightto determine its own destiny, the task of perfect
2、ing our unionmoves forward.(APPLAUSE)OBAMA: It moves forward because of you. It moves forward becauseyou reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war anddepression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depthsof despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while eachof us wi
3、ll pursue our own individual dreams, we are an Americanfamily and we rise or fall together as one nation and as onepeople.(APPLAUSE)Tonight, in this election, you, the American people, reminded usthat while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long,we have picked ourselves up, we have
4、fought our way back, and weknow in our hearts that for the United States of America the bestis yet to come.(APPLAUSE)OBAMA: I want to thank every American who participated in thiselection.(APPLAUSE). whether you voted for the very first time or waited in linefor a very long time.(APPLAUSE)By the way

12、ical campaigns can sometimes seem small, evensilly. And that provides plenty of fodder for the cynics that tellus that politics is nothing more than a contest of egos or thedomain of special interests. But if you ever get the chance to talkto folks who turned out at our rallies and crowded along a r
13、opeline in a high school gym, or saw folks working late in a campaignoffice in some tiny county far away from home, youll discoversomething else.OBAMA: Youll hear the determination in the voice of a youngfield organizer whos working his way through college and wants tomake sure every child has that
14、same opportunity.(APPLAUSE)Youll hear the pride in the voice of a volunteer whos goingdoor to door because her brother was finally hired when the localauto plant added another shift.(APPLAUSE)Youll hear the deep patriotism in the voice of a militaryspouse whose working the phones late at night to ma
15、ke sure that noone who fights for this country ever has to fight for a job or aroof over their head when they come home.(APPLAUSE)Thats why we do this. Thats what politics can be. Thats whyelections matter. Its not small, its big. Its important.Democracy in a nation of 300 million can be noisy and m
16、essy andcomplicated. We have our own opinions. Each of us has deeply heldbeliefs. And when we go through tough times, when we make bigdecisions as a country, it necessarily stirs passions, stirs upcontroversy.That wont change after tonight, and it shouldnt. Thesearguments we have are a mark of our liberty. We can never forgetthat as we speak people in distant nations are risking their livesright now just for a chance to argue about the issues that matter,the cha
